TOP 10 Reasons why ANCHORAGE, ALASKA is the WORST city in the US!

I had the absolute #1 bucket list opportunity to move to and live in Anchorage (1997-1998). I loved everything about it, and everything about Alaska. Sure there are challenges. But the beauty and the people are worth it. Thank you AK!!!!!

TEN DAY DRIVE! LOL! More like a matter of hours. According to Google it's 40 hours and the recommended route bypasses Vancouver. If you take a paddle boat from Anchorage to Seattle maybe that would take 10 days. LOL

I love AK. If only because of the "Can do" attitude of the people. Anchorage is not as cold as most people think. Ask a Green Bay Packers fan.

Walmart, Lowes, several dollar stores and more. Just like anywhere....It's what you make it. I came from Texas to Hawaii to Alaska. There is a little bit of that element in different forms everywhere. Yes, do your homework before living here. I have not experienced the cost you have described in this video but I definitely would not frequent or entertain such prices.

It's weird that Alaska is filled with natural beauty, but so many Alaskans have to stay drunk to cope with living there? If you're thinking about moving to Anchorage to avoid crime and drugs and drunks and rape and homelessness, you're wasting your time. Anchorage isn't heaven, no more than any other city. And if you don't want your children tempted to drink by a drinking society, don't move there. But if you move your family into a small town, Alaska can be a beautiful experience. Just teach your kids to find enjoyment in God's nature, and a clear mind, instead of finding fun being stoned from liquor.

Lol all the Alaskans are raging in the comments. As a Floridian…I hate that I am stationed here…Alaska is depressing. Being stationed in anchorage (their most lively city though it’s pretty dull and riddled with drugs) has the highest suicide rate for the US Army. They pay us EXTRA to be here for a mandatory 3 year tour. The money doesn’t even help cause the cost of living is so high here. I can’t wait to leave. I have until 2025 and I have been miserable since being forced to come here. Alaska is beautiful but in my opinion not worth living here. Great to visit for a day or two if you’re into the outdoors. If you’re not? You’re phucked.

Number 9 sounds so specific when talking about “American’s” there are many races in Anchorage. But I will tell you this, it is one of the most racist city in the US. If your are white, black, hispanic or latino, then you have a chance to live in Anchorage. If you think I am lying you can look it up. If you know what to look up.

I was in relatively balmy Juneau and took the Mt. Roberts tram. The young tram operator was asked what do the people of Juneau do in the winter and he said "we all drink".😮

It's not as isolated as Perth, Australia. Now THAT is isolated. It's the most isolated capital city in the world apart from Honolulu. But well worth the experience, This review sounds like The Accidental Traveller, see wiki for a synopsis of the movie.

I lived in AK for 16 years … in the winter I’d get to work and it would be dark, go inside a building and come out after work and it would be dark. And the summers suck..most days it’s windy, cloudy,and cold rain… there’s about 2 weeks of Fall weather ..everything would be so beautiful with lots of color then in 2 weeks the chinook winds would literally blow off all the leaves from the trees and it would turn gray so from mid September to May it’s gray. For 2-3 weeks in May and in September you have good weather…unless you love snow machines, skiing, ice fishing ..outdoor stuff in the winter you’d love Alaska but if not after a while it just wears on you. I moved to Florida.

The long cold winters are no fun. We live in a newer housing area 600k to 700k houses a few million dollar homes so it not all that bad. Down town and mountain view fairview area is the worst.

I don't know who this individual is that created this video, but she doesn't appear to know all the facts: loving people, helping hearts, encouraging individuals, good jobs, beautiful surroundings (moose, bears, fish, fishing, gyms, walking, running, dry cold and heat (warmer weather), housing, family upbringing, self employment business etc). I lived there for over 17 years, I'm an African American male and loved it there.... There are many other African Americans living a good life there so please this is not a good video to disclose the true facts or experience....

By the way, I was in Alaska lat year again and the cost of gas was lower than my present home, Ventura California. Gas, food and rent was not higher in AK. The prices, of course, are higher the farther you are away from Anchorage or Fairbanks.

The worst part of Alaskan winters are the short days in winter. We would meet drivers coming up from Minnesota or Michigan on the Alcan, they told us it was colder in the UP than in Tok Junction.
Alaskans were always known for the drinking culture. It is so bad in some areas that the Native Corporations have some DRY towns. I moved to Fairbanks in 1979 and it seems the same, in that regard now.
