Every time I hear this song, well as one of four children of a widow who was ( and beautiful) at 25, it rings a huge bell in my world. I love it still and I will be 60 in 2024.❤

I remember as a kid being very curious abt this time period. Having both grown up on Elvis Presley, was acutely aware of the time period he met his end in 1977, and already was in tune with my mother’s “flower child” vibes.

What sealed this curiosity for me was “Sabrina The Teenage Witch” with Mellissa Joan Heart, in particular the episode where she “time traveled” and in her school they measured girls skirts.

I am also quite found of how the song writers for “Hound Dog” liked the grit in which “Big Mama Thornton” spewed the lyrics as though she were cursing.

As I listen to these vocals used in “Harper Vally P.TA.” I am reminded and hooked to the grit in Jeannie C. Reilly’s voice as the song intensifies.
In my opinion, it is the grit that makes this song what it is. It is a key ingredient of the song - and in my opinion the song wouldn’t hold as much water without it.

Bottom line - Jeannie C. Reilly at least vocally has to care - she has to realize that the woman being represented in the song is being treated unjustly, it has to piss her off down to her core. And she had to possess a willingness to fight back.

This country, our God given souls... could stand to use some teaching in pride for another.
Instead of finding ( something) about another to ( define) them against the rest.
There IS.... something about everyone, in everyone that brings ( light) in the room, a life...a day. A passing in the night...
We should focus more one abilities that are good about themselves, in them , about them.
Then maybe, ...just maybe the constant practice of destruction of character will finally be banished from our toungs. Our views.

I am a teacher by profession and from the Netherlands..so at first I didn't know what PTA stood for...but I googeled it and it is, if I a m correct, the parent teacher Association...a phenomenon, who don't have here in Holland...anyway...the song is about the hypocrisy of many people and that is absolutely true....doesn't matter whether you live in Europe or the US......nice song, 1968...it came out...long time ago..
