What Are Guitar Preamp Pedals And How To Use Them

Would have been nice to actually have heard the preamp pedals and not a bunch of other fx. Oh well, moving along.

I was using Boss Equalizers as Preamps, I have a GE-7 and a PQ-4 both can be set relatively flat and are able to give a clean boost, what would be the advantage of getting an specific Guitar Preamp like the ones shown here ?

One topic I’m curious about w/r/t preamp pedals: What if you skip a physical amp and go straight into (for instance) an audio interface going into a DAW? Are the useful in that scenario?

Providing information about product, service, or brand attracts consumers’ attention. If an ad is entertaining, consumers will watch it until the end. Therefore, businesses must consider that their brands’ advertising and advertising message need to be kept away from irritability that annoys consumer. As for my favorite Pre-Amp (I don't clip it to my life but) I really like to start my day with it. Don't know why. Maybe I'm sort of addicted to that... "amplified" feeling, you know? That "elevated" feeling...

Zombie thread alert.... newish subscriber, so i am still foraging through the older videos.

A qurstion that to me listening to this pre amp talk: is an active EQ pedal eitha. DB boost also in the same arena as a pre-amp? I am thinking it may be sort of like how OD/distortion/fuzz is more of a spectrum than clear classifications.

P.S. i enjoyed Emo-Oceans a lot, loved how Nick went from the e-drum pad on the intro to the acoustic drums as the jam progressed. Nice!!

Hey Josh! Wonderful meeting you at the Dallas International Guitar Festival this year!! I’ve been using a J Rockett Archer as a preamp for years and it has never let me down!

No idea if this will ever be seen. Just got back into guitar/pedals after a 10yr hiatus. What would be the difference between your clover (preamp boost with eq) and an eq boost pedal (such as Earthquaker Devices Tone Job)?

question from an intermediate guitarist who has only recently sarted using/collecting pedals: does the boss eq I’ve been running first in my amps fx loop count as a preamp? the logic behind how I’ve been using it is the exact logic highlighted in this video- it boosts the high mids and highs in my somewhat muddy-at-low- volumes sounding micro dark-terror, and sets up my tone for the delay/reverb/chorus fx that come after it in the fx loop. In front of the amp I have my distortions and drives. Any feedback would be awesome, I haven’t experimented a ton with changing the order of the pedals going in the front of the amp, but I definitely noticed the eq seems to work best in the fx loop, in front of my walrus audio “julia”, and earthquaker devices “dispatch master”.

Your comment about the od pedals not being preamps is flat out wrong. First of all the first preamps inside amplifiers were there to provide drive by pushing their tubes that were less powerful than the poweramp tubes and thus eliminating the need for very high volume to get dirty tones.This is why your argument is historically inaccurate. But even if this was not the case, it is also inaccurate because the definition of a preamp is that it is a device that converts a weak signal to a signal that is powerfull enough for further processing, aka 'line level'. The definition of a preamp therefore is not 'has eq and is clean'. In conclusion overdrive pedals etc are more than preamps, but are still preamps.
