ASMR | Relaxing Book Triggers & Reviews (tapping, tracing, ear to ear tingles)

I'm a little late coming to this video, but I had to pop in to say how much I enjoyed it! I've read and thoroughly enjoyed most of the books you chatted about today. I listened to the audible version of Demon Copperhead this past summer while I working in my garden, and it did not disappoint! One of my favorite Barbara Kingsolver novels is Prodigal Summer, and now I feel like I need to listen to it again. I have a recommendation for something that would fit nicely into the season : Wintering by Katherine May. It's nonfiction, not very long, and truly a book to curl up with as the days get shorter and colder. Thanks again for such a wonderful video, Sarah!

I also got Fourth Wing recently. I haven't started it yet, but I wanna start it soon. I also just got Geneva, which is the debut novel of actor Richard Armitage. But I'm in the middle of Ali Hazelwood's "Loathe to Love You" and Alan Rickman's diary right now. I have way too many books I want to read, but I definitely want to check out The Priory of Orange Tree. I'm a sucker for fantasy and romance, so that's exciting for me.

Some really good audiobook recommendations: Code Breaker, My Life with the Chimpanzees, The Daily Coyote, Wild by Cheryl Strayed, and Into the Planet: My Life as a Cave Diver.

The book which got me into running and I can wholeheartedly recommend is “What I Talk About When I Talk About Running” by Haruki Murakami.

I listened to the secret history via audiobook and HATED it. But I think that was largely due to the narrator and how terribly cheesy they made all of the characters sounds. 1/10 do not recommend the audio book.

Girl, I totally know what you mean with running! I’ve always run for exercise, but have never liked it lol! I’m fascinated by people who love it so much.

I was so happy to see Priory of the Orange Tree in this video. I don’t know anyone who has read it personally so I love to hear reviews. I adore the book and just finished A Day of Fallen Night, the prequel, which I might love even more. I agree the pacing was odd at the end of the Priory and I found myself wanting more. For me, I loved the characters and world so much that I wish it was 2-3 books so it could go more in depth into them.

I read Priory as a teenager back in 2019 and had no expectations and adored it but I do wonder what I'd think if I reread it now after all the hype

The Goldfinch is (in my opinion of course) one of the worst books I've ever read, but her prose is brilliant so I still can't decide whether I should read The Secret History

Donna Tartt is such a good author! I love her unique writing style and how she writes makes me feel like I’m truly apart of the characters’ lives. I found her through her book, The Goldfinch, and I felt so many emotions when reading it!

Love your book videos! Ms. Barb grew up in Kentucky and lives on a farm in Southwest Virginia now. I’m a native of that area (EKY/SWVA) and found Demon to be an absolute Appalachian masterpiece!

Your book videos are my favourite ASMR. I watch once to fall asleep and then multiple times after to hear the reviews. The first video of yours that i ever saw was the rainy day fantasy book one and I was blown away as I watched you pick up and discuss loads of my favourite books (name of the wind, circe, the blade itself...). Our tastes are so similar that i find these videos a great (and relaxing) way to get recommendations, it would be so awesome if you started a book club! I didnt know that you had a patreon discord, so I'm off to sub and join that now to hang out with all the kind people in the comments.

I found the four agreements to be impactful! I think all spirituality aside they’re just good principles to try to live by!

I read Four Agreements and it was only “ok.” I get that some people enjoyed it but I didn’t feel that it was real earthshaking for me.

I read priory of the orange tree years ago and I felt the same way. I just didn’t connect as much as I thought I would. It also took me a while to read which isn’t typical for me. However, this author does have a series and it’s amazing. The first book is called the bone season and I highly recommend it!

I love these book asmr videos. I feel like it's two communities who overlaps a lot but there's not much content like this. This video has been in my Watch later Playlist for a week and I finally found the perfect moment to enjoy it❤

I love your book videos! I've been having a vey busy and very tiring two weeks where I i haven't had time or energy to read, so at least with this video I get to be thinking and hearing about books! Priory is on my tbr list, and I loved The Secret History when I read it many years ago. I'm also a long-term fan of Barbara Kingsolver, so I'm intrigued to hear about her new one.

My mom also loves The Four Agreements. I haven't read it but your review reminds me how I felt reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. It had some good nuggets of wisdom I picked out, but it was much too spiritual for me.

As always, love the book videos. Have not read or listened to any of these this time around. The Kingsolver one does sound interesting though. Currently I am reading The Sheep Look Up by John Brunner which I am enjoying so far. It's a 1972 sci-fi book about how the "future" world has deteriorated due to pollution and rampant consumerism. I also just loaded up my audible library with a few non-fiction books. Balkan Ghosts by Robert Kaplan, which is described as a political travelogue through history and Our Man Down In Havana which is the autographical "behind the scenes" of how Graham Greene came to write his book Our Man In Havana...both were free to add to the library. Also grabbed three fiction books, All the Names by Jose Saramago, The Comedians by Graham Greene, and If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino (the first two were also free). All three I've read before and are among my favorite books, I just want to hear them narrated and see if it adds anything to the experience. Also just finished listening to How To Stop Time by Matt Haig which is kind of a magical fantasy/love story that was pretty enjoyable.
