I recently upgraded my AM3+ board from 8gb ram to 16gb for $17 and my FX4300 to FX6300 for $22. I figured at those prices the price/performance gain was worth it. I'm using a 1050Ti card. Opinions welcome!

I could still play doom eternal with this together with RX580 8GB, how cool is that? And also without any overclock. There are minor stutters, not really much. And that would be gone with some overclocking, I tried %5 overclocking on my board, that went super smooth and not so much heat.

the Fx6300 won't cut it since 2020 in my opinion... And having one overclocked (despite 4.3ghz is very achievable on any VRM-cooled 970 mobo w/212 cooler or even the one you've got for the review) won't provide all the extra juice modern games need.

But if on a 970 motherboard, an upgrade to an Fx8350/70 is a reasonable upgrade, the mainstream 8 core won't need overclock since they have a base of 4ghz, and the 2 extra cores will impact a lot. So by moving from an Fx6300 to an Fx8350 you gain 15% frequency and 30% more cores, which translates into a slightly improved singlecore and a very nicely improved multicore performance.

That being said, from the 3 games you tested, The worst one was SOTR, that i think could sit at mid 40fps on medium settings (the extra weight from low to med would be taken mostly by the GPU) which is an improvement over the 30fps 900p at comparable low settings the consoles like PS4 provided back in the day, and despite some stutter here and there, makes the game really playable (remember we are on a budget here). Too bad there are games far more demanding than SOTR out there that aren't really playable on an Fx6300

Last but not least... if you need a PC to run indy games and do light productivity jobs like Photo editing, or just web browsing, Word & Excel on an extreme budget, Fx6300 might still be reasonable if paired with an old GPU like GTX960, R9 380, GTX1050Ti or something around that performance... but for a little higher price i would pick an Fx8 core or sandy/Ivy bridge i7 since it will work quite better both for games and productivity (these can handle 1080p video editing without getting as frustrated as with the Fx6300).

It's only time to say goodbye to technology when it no longer does what you need it to do. It's all about use case. I'm watching your awesome video on a core 2 duo with 4gb of memory and an r7 250, because I don't need an rx 6700 xt for that. I have an FX 6300 machine with an R9 280 that is now a Steam box and it's awesome for playing indie titles in the living room. I have a few older systems, and they all do something I want them to do. :0)

i still rock an fx 6300 paired with a 1050ti as my secondary build. its about to get a 980ti upgrade mostly so i can use my 1050ti in a different build. honestly still okay if you're on a very low budget. i've just had mine for years and put it to use instead of collecting dust lol

i'm still using an FX 6300 OC to 4.2ghz paired with RX 550 4gb...that CSGO performance is due to DX9 optimization on AMD GPUs that's why you're seeing a bit lower fps on AMD.

I mean for someone who has a 1660 ti and only really plays shogun2, apex, need for speed heat, Genshin impact, valorant, and over watch. And as someone who DESPERATELY wants to get off his Athlon 3000g for literally anything with more cores and threads. If I found this cpu in a bundle would it be worth it? Is there another cpu out there thats maybe 20-30$ more and fits better with the 1660ti. I’m also on a a320m pro max board I’m also trying hard to get off of for obvious reasons.

You put it quite well; even with CPU, MB and RAM bundle, spending $90 for it was a questionable transaction. Just in my personal opinion, as a long time builder, purchasing hardware that was launched 10 years ago, is just a waste of money.

I just made my wife a PC using this old chip combined with a 1080 that I got for $150 and it works great for what she likes to play. Effectivly building a budget PC for less than $500

I don't know what frequency you were using on your 6300, but I have an FX 6300 with 5.0Ghz overclocking and the FPS is much higher than in these tests. I believe that this processor in 2022 does need to run in overclocking to deliver a good result.

I've been running an fx 8350 for a decade, now has RX480 graphics. What an investment. A decade of use, almost 24/7 running, X Boost enabled a lot of the time. I've used for business and fun without disappointment. I hadn't even thought of upgrading until recently.

Hey I got Rx 6600xt + Fx-8350 Black Edition 16gb ram and all games are going exelent only God of War is getting low 40 fps as lowest. On the other hand Cyberpunk I can play in 4k res with Fsr Balanced at 30fps. I belive non game exists for 1080 where Iam not gonna be around 100-140fps. It was my personal experiment and it end up well. If u have no much cash u might have good pc for cheap. I tested all games no issues at all no lags no stutters nothing. Only on 4k on some games u had to switch FSR for 60fps. If u dont care about FSR U ll drop somewhere around 10-20 fps on some games. This set up was mainly for 1080 ULTRA SETTINGS gaming above 60fpses and it turns out its in almost all games 100-140fps. It migh be funny that I didnt bought ryzen 5 5600x but I wanted to see if its possible to play on Fx with rx6600xt and how much bootleneck I ll get. After overclock to 4.6gh it is even better but no needed so got back to stock with Boost on which is working like mine 4.6 overclocked without boost. Have a nice day lads and u RA Visuals. PS fx + rtx = bad idea but and fx + amd Rx = Good idea its just simple. Red loves red , green loves intel :P . If u pair rtx with fx u will lose fps as they dont like each other. other than that is not the best way but I build this pc in time of madnes prieces of components and had to know if I wasted money or not really.

You have to turn on Unified monitoring in MSI afterburner, otherwise you'll see those crazy fluctuations in every game. It's not physically possible for it to only be using 10% of the GPU while it's rendering in game, images are not and will never be rendered using the CPU. Because it's not physically capable. you just have the settings wrong. Still a perfectly capable CPU but I wouldn't Pair it with anything better then an R9 380 or GTX 960, that's about where the sweet spot is and the most you'll get out of it without overclocking the snot out of it, and with the temperatures, cooler and motherboard you could comfortably hit 4.5ghz by overclocking and get significantly better performance at the same time.
