FINAL FANTASY VIII REMASTER REVIEW - Happy Console Gamer

When on Gamepass it didn't have Analog back iirc. Now it does and while the Remaster is lackluster the work on characters and speed up Is enough to me and make it worthwhile, unlike FF7 and FF9 which are not worth it, if you can emulate them instead. As they offer no significant benefit outside of speed up which is also available via emulation.

This is DEFINITELY NOT the best-looking version. Put the regular game on an emulator and just use some basic filters. All of the blurry pre rendered backgrounds will look so much better and so much SHARPER. You can add all of the QOL additions as well with an emulator. Not to mention you can have the original character designs where Squall doesn't look like a teeny bopper from a boy band (Thanks a lot Dissidia!).
This version is lazy. Nothing more needs said.

Everybody’s entitled to their opinion, I personally think Final Fantasy 8 is the best one of all time

Final fantasy VIII is my favorite and playing it in middle school was the best. Love the characters,music,and story. Waking up early to play a few hours before school was so worth it.

To me 7, 8 and 9 are ALL equeally fantastic, and as a retro FF fan, FFXVI feels so generic, I played like 4 to 6 hours and gave up, I felt "forced" to play it, in contrast older ones, kept Me in awe, and also the intro from 8 is SO good, perfect 10/10.

IV through IX are all good to great, IX is my favorite.

Wish they’d give us a Legend of Dragoon Remaster and release it like this.

I played this a few years back and my only real issue was that the story felt unfinished. Lots of neat ideas but none of it was explained well or threaded together. It just felt random. As far as the draw system goes it’s not a big deal if you grind for about 30 minutes on a weak enemy.

Replayed it a couple of years ago and I must say it's one of my favorites in the series. But the draw feature isn't very good, even worse if you're an OCD person who needs 99 of every magic.

Ff9 was better overall and holds
Up today too the remaster, ff8 was my fav rpg story ever, it was just so awesome playing it back in the day.

And I would say yes which is probably the best way to play it in handheld mode to hide some of that s*** that we're looking at LOL but yeah I do love this game it was my first Final Fantasy game back then

I don't know you know I'm wondering about that I know they lost the code but I mean how hard would it be to just redo the game on a different on a new engine with upgraded visual because the upgraded character models are cool but everything else looks like s*** at this point they should just remake the game

Not going to lie, this is one of the worst games I ever played. The story sucked and was poorly paced with tons and tons of holes, the gameplay “innovations “ were garbage and self defeating and aside from Squall the characters weren’t interesting. Not that I found Squall as interesting as other protagonists like Cloud and Tidus but compared to the other characters in this game he was very interesting by comparison. The romance was very forced. Final Fantasy X was what this game seemed to want to be: a fairly trippy RPG with a romance subplot. One that was much more endearing and the plot was more engaging overall. If not for the QOL features, I may not have finished it. Final Fantasy XIII and XV weren’t good either but compared to this game they’re masterpieces.

ff8 is my favorite ff of all time
the junction system is confusing for first timers but once you master it the game is just so fun

Also forgot to add is there any difference from the UK & Asia versions on playasia?

For me I didn't like it at first because of the armor equipment is so different from all the other FF games so it took me awhile to get around & finally beat it.

I bought the copy for the nintendo switch yesterday. And my impression was :
HOLY GOD! THIS IS SO GOOD!

I do not understand why you and so many people call final fantasy 8's combat weird or stupid or say it's dumb it's the same as 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 9 and 10 it's called turn based combat

Soft spot in the heart for ff8. I love the mercenary work the group goes through and even a failed assassination attempt!! Pretty funny how the sharpshooter gets cold feet hahaha!!

Epic battles, grinding to draw magics, killer sound track and one of the most uniquely wierd stories Ever!! Ultimacia?? Adel??? Lunatic pandora and a freakishly frightening Lunar Cry!?!?! Wtf?

If you can get past the sappy love story I'd say go for it!! I mean, getting the monsters cleared out of the Ragnarok dragon ship.....yea....you get to fly around in a freaking DRAGON SHIP.

I love 8. I had a 64 and rented a playstation when it first came out.. was the first playstation game I played at home and I remember not having a memory pack and everytime I died I had to start over... it was so irritating and challenging lol but I was hooked on the cinematics and the story aspect of it compared to the 64 it was a breath of fresh air!

Anyone who complains about the draw system, likely underutilizes the card mod ability.

For me its one of the best jrpg. Was my 2nd FF back then. And i loved and still love the Storie and Gaemplay. And ofc one of the best mini game ever.

FF8 is incredible

My introduction to FF8 was the extra disc that came with Final Fantasy VII, it was just a clip of the dance scene, but dem graphics and dat music got me pretty damn excited to play the game. I did so a year or so later, I didn't have enough money to buy it in the store but I found it in a rental place(discs only) and I was planning to rent it and not return it, but I had to give my information and register before loaning so I didn't do that. Instead I rented it and by luck happened across the game at a flea market but the discs were in really bad shape. So... I meticulously took the stickers off of the rental version and put them on the flea market one and then returned those. Mwahaha.
I like the game btw. The drawing is tedious but only for the first disc or so, once you start refining items you barely need to use it again. The story is so-so, like FFX you're not following the most interesting characters but their kids. The music is great as usual with FF. I'd give it a 8/10 even today.

imagine if you had just gotten a couple magic spells in your loot for being an enemy...share magic amount across all party members and cap the stat increases at 99 but let the stock keep rising. Incentivizes actually using magic, eliminates draw grinding (leave it in if you want but just give each monster a finite supply in each battle) and creates a more natural power progression. maybe they tried it and it didn't balance well. who knows

It's a very weird game for sure. I hated it at first, but I do enjoy it quite a bit now, and the music is incredible. The balamb garden melody is so soothing, takes me way back to the good old days and gets me quite emotional. Some of the people I grew up with playing this game are no longer around, and this game in particular brings fond, loving memories of such times. Final Fantasy has always embraced change, and 8 is very much proof of that, only now being 35 years old do I realize that.

I started my first walkthrough last night. Played for about two hours, so far I'm enjoying the game

I still got my original copy from Square on Playstation, and this is the FIRST Final Fantasy game I was introduced to so from there my expectations were set. I always liked the draw system even the time it took as it meant I didn't have to rush through and could power up.

The remastered version was a blast from the past and fun to enjoy again.
