ОтветитьI suspect you would need some nerve to express even the light blasphemy: but my fair love Was fram'd by hands far more divine, in the years when England was slipping into a religious civil war. Formally the poem's a song; but I think back then its sonnety aspects would have been audible (two strong voltas; long stanzas balanced against couplets). There were so many sonnets around 1580-1610 that people probably listened for the form, the way we hear walking basslines today.
ОтветитьReminds me of a compliment I once heard on (I think) Jerry Springer (don't laugh): "She's a pretty girl but she has an ugly girl's personality."
Ответитьlove it I went far
ОтветитьVery interesting verse, in self deprecation akin to the sonnets. Re the change in taste in women. I imagine that it was preferential to have a strong women that would survive child birth. Having said that taste may not have changed as much as you imagine, Anna Nicole Smith was quite admired for her figure.
