GoPro HERO 7 Has Major Flaws...

I got one 3 Xmas ago. And it was a silver 7. It kept freezing up and not shut off til dead. Then plug in and won't charge cua it's so dead.

His sucks since it's an I ternary battery. If it was not, I could take battery out and it should reset it.

I have never upgraded the software but maybe I should try.

As of Black Friday 2021, GoPro and Amazon are still comfortable selling these, sandisk extreme, batteries made in 2019, was impressive until I used the spare battery, then locked up, the screen display can turn off right away or take 8 seconds, huh? Why does it hesitate, reformat blah blah checked version it’s 1.90, then it stated ERROR sd, wow really on your recommended card, put in other battery it needs ERROR sd, I took the card out and it won’t turn on, and I’m supposed to trust this film trains lol right. I have an 8 year old sjcam and the only time that camera warns about sd is when it’s full, GoPro should try that out, the fix is always to format.

10/22/21 i have a basically new, only used handful of times, gopro 7 black, take it out to play with it, battery just drains in minutes, called go pro, they email me steps to take, that dont work, try reformatting that also didnt work, should i just junk it? halp!!

This is my 1st GoPro and I didn't have a problem because I had a great sales person help me set it up for me because I asked him to because I'm disabled and if I set it up I would be frustrated but I have the hero 7 silver and I love it and all I had to do is just go into the store and say help. It's probably the store that you got it because stores like Target and Walmart don't have any specific people who know the products that you are getting. That's the difference between us

I have a hero 7 silver I dont have the best but I dont have the worst and my gopro has only freezed once ever but I was able to unfreeze it and I dont feel like upgrading it

Zero problems with the 5 and 7black. Maybe you just needed to upgrade the firmware and use supported sd cards. When did you mention either of those?

Hi, I’m having mine overheat, and whenever I tried to shoot a time lapse video it says “camera busy” then takes two shots and shows it as a story. I’m new to GoPro’s can someone please tell me what to do?

Gopro's are great when they work. Unfortunately, they rarely work for long periods of time. Battery life, SD errors and charging problems will haunt you. I've bought many GoPro's over the years and these problems are consistent. Why won't this company iron out these issues? They're all about putting out a new product with fancy tech but they still can't get these fundamental processes resolved. As a leader in the industry, they should work on the basics or lose loyal customers. I hate to say it, but I'm done. I see a lot of people with alternative action cameras out there now. Peace out GoPro.

i got a 7 black in the mail today and had the led freeze problem and still a draining battery in 2020

Got a 7 silver two weeks ago. Buggy and problematic. Battery drains fast. I’m very disappointed in this, my first GoPro.

My gopro stopped working for me

I’ve had the go pro hero 7 for over a year and I stopped using it. I continue to use my go pro hero 4 black. It’s my rock.

I got my Silver Hero 7 last summer and have only used it twice. It discharged completely from 100% overnight and was nonchargeable for a while. I bought it for a trip and could never use it. Payed so much for it. I wish I would've gotten the cheaper knock off chinese gopros. At least the sting of it not working wouldn't have been as great.

My hero 7 black is absolute garbage and customer service has not helped in the slightest. I wish I had come across this previously.

Mine has issue too go pro hero 7 black (i used it not more than 5times)
-even if i turn off, the battery drained and keeps on heating
-when connect my phone to my go pro hero 7 i noticed that when i move my go pro i saw in the screen on my phone that the movement is delay/lag approx 5sec that's why when i recorded videos the video is not syncing on the audio/voice
-it is easy always heating
-even if i turned it off it keeps on turning on

YES! The Hero7 is a POS. It thermals randomly which means stop recording without warning or shutdown completely without warming. And, yes, the thing gets HOT. Clearly, there are thermal issues with these cameras. Worst purchase I ever made. And GoPro will NOT come clean to these problems. I thought I got a bad one so had it replaced TWICE to no avail.

Same issues after manual update to V1.80
-Power button worthless
-Camera kills battery even when it does finely power off
-Screen freezes and switches modes on its own causing footage being lost

This is my last GoPro I would give it away but then I would feel bad for punishing them

Absolute piece of junk. Tried to use the Hero Black 7 for my trip to Arctic Alaska last week and the GoPro locked up constantly ruining special moments that could have been captured. When I tried to create a project it was nearly impossible on both the phone app and my laptop. In the end, I lost everything I captured and couldn't create a single video. What a waste of an expensive purchase!

new update fixes the flaws

My 7 black just stops every time at 1 minute ! What do I do. Ive reset the camera, Ive re formatted the card but NOTHING works

my new GoPro 7 White powers on, brings up a logo and then does not go any further. It will not connect to an app or my PC and files on the SD card don't seem to work either.

My hero 7 silver does the same thing with the battery draining off.

Just got my hero 7 black yesterday, all the same problems. No documentation told me to fully charge the camera before trying the update. It's a common thing for great hardware companies to unfortunately employ the worst software people, just sayin'.

I bought go pro 7 silver and have used two times only. Now cannot turn on power anymore even though I charged. And after I charged and red light was blinking and it didn't stop for so long and cannot press any button and no response too. really regret that I bought

I have the GoPro Hero 7 Black. My biggest problem is with the GoPro software and the inability of using your SD to instead of Internal Memory as the default saving method. So, if you run out of Internal Memory on your Cell phone you CANNOT save video from the GoPro app to your phone unless your Internal memory is above 4GB free space.

Ben I recently purchased a hero 7 black with almost all the problems you describe. my question is there a fix for these problems or should I try and force GoPro to replace this camera since it’s only a couple months old?

I just received my brand new GoPro Hero 7 Black and it's having issues. I have yet to take it outside or even mount it to anything. Installed the GoPro app on my phone and updated the Hero 7 Black to the latest firmware v1.70 which was released in January.


First, the touch screen, when awakened from screensaver, sometimes, will turn into a colored negative (Imagine what Predator sees) or it'll be a colored negative and upside down in orientation (whether it's recording or just on standby).


Second, sometimes the touchscreen won't even wake up from screensaver which is super annoying (Also not heat related because it does it even when it's not recording and relatively cold). You can see that the backlight wakes up but it's just a black screen. All functions seem to be working with the black screen though. And sometimes, it will turn on again if you wait for a long time and hit record multiple times.


Third, and yet again just sometimes, it won't automatically connect to my iPhone XS Max.


Fourth, this thing can get stupid hot (I don't think the negative screen issue is related to heat because it did it almost immediately out of the box).


Fifth, Hypersmooth looks low resolution (lots of artifacts) when the camera is panning or moving at a high rate of speed. Even when shot at 1080p 60fps. Definitely seems like the processing power is not there yet.


Overall, I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. I'm not going to hold my breath on a firmware update as it looks like it's been 7 months since the last one and this camera was launched less than a year ago.

I have all the same problems. Mostly I hate that 7black drains battery empty during night time. Today I needed my 7black For a special event, but guess what... Yea, battery is dead.
One other thing makes my nerves boil, that freezing thing. I am a skydiver, and I need my gopro to work when I push record, I dont have time In a plane to open my gopro and battery when we are In jumpline. Specially then, when we have a paying cutomer Who wants his/hers tandemjump to be recorded. I need my gopro to work 100%. These cameras are so untrustable, that I dont recomend These For anyone... 😑 Wasted money

I had a GoPro hero seven black fun while now and I have not had any of these issues

GoPro is just plain junk, had three different ones, all had issues, all have been taken back. I really wanted to love GoPro but it just didn’t happen.

Thanks, that put me off buying a gopro, when a company starts trading off its reputation rather than it's product, time to look at the alternatives.

Hello sir ben i dont know if you will notice me but i have a question so im new here in this gopro camera thing and my question is, does freezing (not responding) gopro can damage camera? Or it will damage the quality of the photo or video?

I just bought my first GoPro (a 7 black) and I’m having these problems. I’m gutted. All the videos I saw before raved about this device but the battery drain is a deal breaker issue. I may refund if there’s no fix. I don’t see why I should have to turn off all the camera features to have a battery charge remain. Then I have no features. I need wifi and gps turned on.

Everyone is having problems. After lots of trouble most were resolved. I think a MASSIVE return of product with a demand for a refund would give them a awake up call.. I am looking for a better camera and there are better. I like the GP basically if it worked. It also freezes often. I do not know why people tolerate this. Any other product would be instantly returned.

Bought a brand new Go Pro 7 Black a few weeks ago. Worked fine at first although the battery drained very quickly. Today the power button doesn’t function, and I can’t get to any menus because the screen blacks out. Very disappointed because it was expensive.

just got a hero7 black and the video are slow getting stuck, change the sd cards and still same thing

I have a question, Is it normal for GoPro LED lights to be always open even if my GoPro is Turned off? (for GoPro Hero7 Black)
