Being Swedish I have to say I am delighted for once to hear Ikea pronounced almost perfekt! I understand it is not an easy name to say in English, but to us it is rather fun to always hear ” Aykeyah” rather than ”I” like i in the word ” in”as you said it. And you also got Råskog right when you did a more german pronounciation. I really can understand the Ikea names can be tricky to say for non Scandinavians especially when we have three odd letters , å, ä, ö😃 The names are usually place names, like the plastic cup, Sunnersta, is an area in my hometown of Uppsala.
I agree the large Alex drawers are great and I love mine . I am lucky enough to have some vintage printer drawers and plan chests but I have to say Ikea really got ut right w Alex and I would glady have one more. It is a shame there are hardly any Ikea furniture made of proper wood anymore, just laminate and/ or mdf. It was easier when so many more of Ikeas furniture in the seventies to the nineties were made of wood, they were much easier to adapt.
I agree the Råskogs second and third trays are difficult to get into. I constantly reorganize mine but the items on the lower trays/ shelves tend to be forgotten! Thank you for a very informative video and it was so nice to see more of your studio!
I have those drawers but taller. I was so lucky to find it at a thrift store in perfect condition for less than $40. It holds all of my acrylic and watercolor paint
ОтветитьThnx for this video! You told about the problem with the cart on wheels (second and bottom floor). That’s the reason I never bought it. Instead, I use a cart on wheels with little drawers. Hairdressers use these carts in salons. It also has a ring on it. Hairdressers use this for a spray bottle. I use it for a cup with water. Maybe this kind of cart is useful in your studio?
ОтветитьI started using Ikea to decorate my art studio. I had to stop last year, however, when they doubled their prices.
ОтветитьI love the Kallaxes so much— I've dragged my Expedits around for 2 moves over 15 years and will keep them until they fall apart. 😂 Also love the Raskog and Alex. Your storage cups are brilliant, will have to go back for some.
ОтветитьWhere did you get the chair at your desk? Would zppreciate knowing . Thanks!

ОтветитьThanks for sharing these great tips!
ОтветитьHi thank you for your video... it was very helpful for me as I'm just setting up a studio.
Can you please tell me the name of the cups you had hanging from your trolley?
Thank you for sharing your art studio and the stuff that you’re using to make art from IKEA. ❤
You’re right some are of low quality and some are also very good.
They offer a lot of choices for everyone depending on their budget.
Sending love and appreciation from Canada. I look forward to visiting Austria soon.
I’m also a Queen of Mess and organizing is a huge challenge for me. 😄🧠
I used a wooden drinks cart to put my canvases and larger supplies. I prefer real wooden thrift shop finds.
ОтветитьI source my furniture from a thrift shop. I found a dresser, removed the mirror which left me with a set of large drawers both wide and deep. It stores my watercolour paper and supplies.
ОтветитьWhat do you use to store large watercolor paper?
ОтветитьThank you for your experience with Ikea products. Agree with your assessments.
ОтветитьLong I / Ke (long e) ah :)
ОтветитьThanks for your suggestions! I also love re-using most I can, but for storage IKEA is so good. Like, I’ve had a vintage desk I love for many years, but it takes up a lot of space and gives me very little storage that is also a bit akward. Your Alex drawers look so good! I might swatch my desk for one with those. I will see if I can find them second hand! Since I have a tiny budget, but no rush, that works very well for me 😊
I also loooove the IVAR series, since it is só versatile. Both how you can buy loose parts and adjust the units, as well as how you organise your stuff in it, with for example the SAMLA boxes. Ive been using, moving and expanding my IVAR for 10+ years. It is also very easy to find and swop second hand, since it is so populair and versatile 😍
maybe some already suggested this....spray paint your carts....i bought 2 white ones & sprayed them copper seven years ago and they still look brand new
ОтветитьHave you considered spray painting your blue movable cart white?
I had a red metal cart and painted it with Rustoleym paint.
Turned out really well.
Also you could paint your cup holders.
Just a thought.
Found your channel this morning and subscribed.
Hello, please, if you are going to directly reference a store, please be sure you pronounce it correctly. You pronounce it like idea. You saying icky in the pronunciation makes it seem like you are saying that they are" icky" and gives a negative feel to it. thanks.
ОтветитьI keep hearing people say they don’t like IKEA because everyplace looks the same. So, what, exactly, is wrong with people’s furniture looking the same? Do we just need to think we are special and unique? I just find that argument tired and weak.
ОтветитьWhite spray paint!
Edit: For the trolley, etc.
a white plastic pole cover will work well on your silver pole. It is slit all down the length and just pops right on. Very inexpensive and the surface is slick so dust doesn't stick.
ОтветитьE-cat! I lost it! LOL , we say it, eye-key-ah. I not sure how other places say it.
ОтветитьThanks for the great video. Question for you, where did you learn to speak English? With the exception of only a few words where I could hear an accent, you could almost pass for someone from the American west coast. Very impressive. Did you go to school in the United States? Thanks again for the video.
ОтветитьThe wide set of drawers are my fav. Use them similarly. The turquoise cart I love. Who wants white when you can have that gorgeous colour. I get deep bins from dollar store that come out very easy and stash my oil paints on lower levels.
ОтветитьWhy not paint your cart and container bars white instead of buying new 🤔 😀
ОтветитьI have the Alex unit also I love it! I do collage and mixed media so I have a lot of paper. I use the Alex drawers to sort my paper with one drawer for each color and the top drawer for little pieces that would get lost otherwise.
ОтветитьOmg I love your round chair I have been wanting one of those or the egg shape ones for years
ОтветитьI have a Raskog cart too. I wish it was taller so the shelves would have more height, so I could store my binders on the lower shelves.
ОтветитьI use a Linmon table as my cutting table in my sewing room.
ОтветитьA very helpful video! Thank you!
Ответить"eye-key-ah"
ОтветитьHalf my house used to be furnished by 'I keeee ah' as we pronounce it in Australia ... IKEA , its very popular here and yes reasonably cheap in comparison, fun to put together, great when you are renting as well as owning a home. Fits in small spaces eg some of those wardrobes wont go through a normal size doorway..ha ha and once assembled will never come out either!!
Surely its everyones choice whether they use Ikea or not? Just like any other chain store. Cheap art materials, yes but then its more directed to kids isnt it? Its not an art or quality craft store...you get what you pay for....I like IKEA
So now I have to dream about your fabulous craft (play room) where my bed is in the middle of the room and I'm surrounded by plants I cant go to IKEA because I always try to buy everything !!!!!! Thanks for sharing you are wonderful for passing your gifts on to your children.
Ответить
ОтветитьVery helpful, thanks from a fellow artist!
Why not spraypaint the trolly?
I so appreciate your desire to repurpose. As a mom, it is hard to not think of waste and our landfills growing exponentially as the days pass. I guess we just do the best where we can, which can be more complicated with budgets, practicality and having munchkins (children). 😊 I love seeing how other artists store their supplies, especially mixed-media artists, as we collect SO much. I love you’re ez breezy style and am going to have to check out your art! Thanks Irit for your time. Blessings from the States.
ОтветитьI also like the Ikea solutions for my sewing room and the Alex chests of drawers, the lemnon tables with the metallic legs, the kallax shelves, and the skadis boards are my favorites. I have a very small place in my washroom but always needed more place so that I reorganized for 3 times my room and I was able to adapt this furnitures to my needs at all time. Now the sewing “corner” takes 3/4 of the washroom actually.
ОтветитьReally nice ideas and I like how organised your art room is. I also use some IKEA furniture for my art room, for me it’s the IVAR system in which I put my stuff and I modified it a little bit, build drawers for it and stuff. It’s easier to store my fabrics and trims in there. I used also some cardbord boxes in different sizes from IKEA for my other crafting supplies, because it makes me mad when I see the chaos inside my boxes. Everything is labelled, so it’s not a problem for me. I am based in Germany and I know the dilemma of finding special pieces plus in my area it’s so hard in general to find good thrifted furniture that didn’t cost a fortune.
ОтветитьThose are some great Ikea finds! I’m always looks for new ideas for my art studio. I love Ikea, so many great pieces and various price points. Their directions are superb as well, and I have put together furniture from many different places. I would also love to get more second hand/vintage furniture’s but I find a lot of the time they are either overpriced, damaged and need work, or mismatch too much with the rest of the house decor.Ikea is really up to date with needs of current society, like chargers in end tables <3 Just love them so much…the nearest one is 3.5hrs from me so it’s like a treat when I shop there haha
Ответитьthanks, very helpful.
ОтветитьIt is OK if the IKEA items and furniture look the same if the end usage is for a studio. :^)
Since studios generally end up looking samy anyways, and the focus is on work and creativity. :-)
In this case we value practicality over looks.
Edit: I believe that it is kinda has the same logic and argument of stationaries and are supplies.. for sketchbooks, papers, coloured pencils and water colour tubes they all look the same. :o)
But the output is different.
I love Ikea. I find my style of furniture : cheap and good quality (most of the time) I don't mind if everybody has the same furniture as me. By the way, in flemish we say IkEa i as in "in" the accent on te "e". But I live in France. The french say IkeA i as in "in" but the accent on the a. My craft"room" mor e of a corner in the living room has against the wall : 2 Billys of 80 cm and 1 of 40 cm. I am an oil painter, quilling, amongst other things. So far I can stowe everyting in there in plastic containers.
ОтветитьLove this! I love love love my Raskog carts! I love that they can be rolled around as needed and mine are loaded up with the cups, too. hehe! I have the Alex on my wishlist! I need two of them!
ОтветитьDo not put anything very heavy because the drawers will sag, I had this problem, .
Ответитьlove it
ОтветитьI thought it was pronounced iKea = “eye-Key-Ya.” Have I been pronouncing it wrong for years?
Ответить
