I had a hard time putting the bezel back on. I guess the screen wasnt perfectly aligned, so the bezel chipped the corner of it. It was a tiny crack, but it somehow sent it all the way down to the other corner. Upon putting it back together, the entire screen is fried. So fml. Also, it took me like 4 hours. U guess im just not too savy.

I used the video to replace the LEDs on my 65" TCL tv on November 11th. I notice last night that during streaming and when the tv has a darker screen when processing from from one episode to the other I am seeing lighter areas in the upper mid section of screen. I have an image on my phone and it is limited to about a 8" square area. Is this an issue you have seen? Or could the adhesive backing on the strips have come loose in the area?

If one does happen to damage a fragile "buffer board" (note1)...is it a totally catastrophic failure issue, or is it an inactive component that can be fixed to a "good enough" state with bonding material and/or splinting of some sort?

note1: I've seen people misidentify simple mechanical strips without electronics/circuitry as "buffer boards" is why I'm asking.

Excellent! Just relolaces and worked like a charm!

The ribbon cables that connect the buffer boards FLIPS UP. The black price flips up and ribbon pulls out.

This guy just saved me from tossing a $700 TV. Thank you!. Definitely had to rewatch the assembly when I thought I lost the little IR wire that snaps onto the board, didn't realize it was on the bufferboard thing. Thanks again!

Seems that two screws hold the strips in place. On the ones that I removed there are some black material that also held the strips in place. Would that be thermal paste? Does the double sided tape need to be thermal or will any double sided tape do?
Also, once the new strips are in place, is it okay to turn on the power to confirm that all led strips are working?
Thanks for any replies?

Thanks for the instructional tutorial. Very thorough step-by-step instructions. Just repaired my 65" TCL tv. A few things I did different. I have read where several people have cracked their screen when trying to remove it from the top filter frame where it is glued together. So, I left it attached to the filter frame and removed them together. Used a couple tabs of painters tape at either end to help keep together. Also, I carefully removed the white reflective backing paper and put back with some Scotch double sided tape here and there. No cutting necessary. I don't know if it will make a difference in longevity of the LEDs but I put a dab of thermal paste under each LED when installing the new strips.

This seems such a common problem on LED LCD TVs, that there would be a benefit to the industry and customers if there was a diagnostic that a single indicator (e.g. the on/off indicator) could be used during boot-up to affirm the LEDs are getting appropriate signals and power. With that information one could immediately determine if replacing one or more strips would fix the display.
If an LED strip failure is detected, the same indicator in theory could be used to present a code that even IDs the specific failing strip or strips.

The same could be used to check the output(s) of the LED power inverter.

If we can increase the life of the LED backlight subsystem by changing the defaults of various TV, this would be a major benefit to users.
Is there a BRIGHTNESS (e.g. 50%) and/or "PICTURE MODE" (low power) and so on that can significantly increase more than a year the amount of time before the LED subsystem fails? Example: default a 65 4series TV from Walmart Model 65S41 (which I THINK is equivalent to the 65S451) came with default brightness set to 100%. However, it is perfectly viewable at lower settings.

I broke my 65' TLC, I would leave it on and it fried the LED strips. And this television was a gift and I didn't want to have to buy a new one. Your video helped me fix my tv and I'm so excited! Your video was easy to understand and I love that you took your time but didn't give needless commentary. Straight to the point! Thank you!!

We replaced our TCL backlights and the TV just blinks one time and still no picture. We can see words on the screen if we hold a light next to the screw. Do you have any other suggestions to try?

This video has been upgraded, GREAT. Me being old school I thought the ribbon cable that hooks to the buffer board and looks like scotch tape was scotch tape and so I cut them with a razor knife. WHAT A BLUNDER. I ended up getting a air bubble in the screen, so I had to junk it.
Glad it was mine.

Don’t do what I did. Be careful not to scratch or touch (with bare hands) the transparent screen behind the display screen. It will show when you turn the TV on now I must live with my mistake. Thankfully I saved the TV from being tossed and only paid $36 for the LEDs to fix it, and 2 hours of my time.
