MK FAN GAMES?? - Playing MUGEN MK for the FIRST TIME

People have asked me to play some of these MUGEN titles for years and I've never got round to it. If I've missed out any key information about some of these games, please let me know!
Defenders of the Earth in particular I'd love to revisit for more 2v2 or something.

Quan Chi was in a 2d game, Mythologies Sub Zero, that's the version they used on the mugen

Defenders of the Earth is in a lot better of a spot now. The camera even Dynamically zooms the camera in and out the further and closer you get. Making it feel and look a lot better. Its becoming my favorite Mugen.

When I was a young lad my dumb brain thought MUGEN games were cartridge based games you could purchase & that I was missing out on all the fun😂🤣

All Mugen MK sucks, because it don't respect the input time of the originals. I used to play with Cyrax on MK 3, Always holding block, back 3x times, releasing block and pressing almost instantly low kick to release Cyrax net. On Mugen MK games, it don't work with the same timing, I have to release block a lot earlier or not hold block at all, because if I don't do it, Cyrax don't release his net. The same is valid for other characters with similar inputs (like Baraka shreding blades). It makes this fan games feel clunky and not faithful.

How do you play these games? PC, laptop, cell phone, etc?

I want to play these games but when I download them I can’t play them, do I need an emulator or thing for these?

I thought this was gameplay and not boring documenting

you dont like mk9? to me mk9 feels very similar to classic mk

The second one seems best.

It would be nice to have the larger maps of the third for only 2vs2 or even free for all.

I appreciate the roster of the first, but wish they had left out the goofy choices like Undertaker'l, Homer Simpson, and "Satan."

Actually Quan Chi has been in a 2D setting just not playable so has Shinnok in the Sub Zero Mythologies game.

I remember the MUGEN days when it was so popular and anyone could use it since it was an open source fighting game creator and you can use any character from almost any fighting game and if the character wasn't available eventually they would be since ppl always uploaded them on the internet when you can download them easy and put them in. You could also tweak settings like make boss characters have more health or more power. And if the characters were different in size like going from Marvel vs Capcom to Mortal Kombat you could adjust the size of the character in the settings and make them the same size and make things look cohesive.

Weren't the original arcade games not polished and full of bugs?

Question: Would "Mortal Kombat Project" work as an alternative to the first three MK games (given that they've been delisted from all digital distribution platforms, except for the old PC versions on GOG)? Or is it more of a fan-made complement to the classic games?

Mortal Kombat Project has changed a lot from when I last saw it. (five years ago in a video from MrGSTAR321) Its really cool to see how much it changed.

Why is he calling mugen as being "games"? Isn't mugen just an easy to code fighting engine?

It's just compilations, pretty sure I can make a pack and put an mk coat of paint and you'd call it a game too lol.

It's just a front for custom characters to interact.

I agree with how the levels are. big and the characters are small cant do alot of follow up combos.

In terms of best Recreations of non classic characters Mortal Kombat New Era is the best so far. Even giving them an iconic 2D look

Just a reminder, when Mortal Kombat was first released on console, Democrats tried to pass legislation to ban this game and all violence in video games. Republicans blocked the bill and argued freedom of expression also fell under free speech. If Democrats would have had their way, we would be playing gummy bears in fancyland right now.

Everytime I play MK Mugen the cpu jumps into the void never to be seen again.

You can go into the mechanics of the game and change the max damage or even get rid of it all together for Project. All characters and mechanics are changeable if you know how or take the time to learn how. You can alway remove and add characters and other mechanics anytime you take the time to set it up to your style
