2023 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport/Montero (inc. 0-100 & off-road) review

I'm Trading from a 2008 Pajero Exceed 4WD Petrol. (Towing getting 23/100kms) Don't do 4WD any more. So what do you think about the 2WD model for towing a Jayco 17ft. Weight 1900kg

I envy countries like Australia and Thailand, they have more options from international brands specially SUVs. Here in India to get a real SUV we have only the Toyota fortuner. Would love to see Mitsubishi and Ford and much more options for buyers

Just some information on overtaking from somebody that routinely overtakes car/caravan combos in road trains. There is an art to overtaking in unresponsive vehicles. You need to anticipate when theres a straight bit of road or overtaking opportunity coming up, drop back off the car in front and use that distance to gain speed before you reach the car again so that your speed difference is considerable when you move into the oncoming lane and your exposure time is short. Power really not required, just good driving.

This is sold as a Montero in some countries right?

Mitsubishi have one of the best AWD systems available from lots of experience from Rally and Dakar Racing.

'Sport' offroading is a sport. If by sport you doing fun stuff out and about. Sport doesnt automwtically mean faster stronger bigger

I test drove one of these yesterday at Mitsubishi and one word…. Trash! Felt 20yrs old in the cabin, the ergonomics were trash, you cannot lower the car seat so my eye level was looking through the top 5 inches of the windscreen, rather than in the middle and I’m only an average height guy. Power was meh, it was just uncomfortable, you sit up high but the gear stick sits down low, it was a very weird setup. Went to Toyota jumped in a Hilux Rogue and was blown away! Signed the order on the spot and paid my deposit only 3 week lead time.

I would like to see a video on the Mazda cx-9 to compare the two suv’s

It's alright but I'd rather the real Pajero had sticked around longer

You seam to like praising the fords and yes they are nice to drive but you don't mention the fucking things blow up all the time if it's not the gear box it's the engine

When doing your 0 to 100 km p/hr test I notice that you apply the brakes and build up revs, in Mitsubishi vehicles this takes away power as Mitsubishi's have a safety feature of derating the throttle if the brake and throttle are engaged at the same time to avoid powering on in an accident where both are pressed at the same time, this then wouldn't give you an accurate performance as the vehicle is derated through out your test.

That info unit must be faulty cause the one I played with was fast and worked great

about the only thing shit with this car is the horn lol. no offence but these reviews make every car sound pretty bad, like i got put off by every single model of the same vehicle type because of these reviews. after the driving the 2022 PS i came back a week later and bought the black GSR in the display room, can't fault it. it'll go pretty much anywhere you want it to with ease and it'll be comfortable whilst doing it. i have 2 bulging discs in my lower back and can do an 8hr drive with fishing stops along the way, with minimal pain that only comes on in the last hour or two of the trip. my last two cars were a 2003 falcon and a 2003 323 hatch, comparing them to thie PS is stupid but the PS is bliss in comparison. all the safety features work really well, the ACC is awesome and very fuel efficient, the car is comfortable and easy to drive, i find the cameras are totally fine, i can see everything and i love having them. if i could afford a prado i probably would have bought one but at the same time, it really is just as good when it comes to my lifestyle and the price difference is a no brainer. after putting 11,500km i still love it and definitely suggest test driving one if you're in the market. there's a really good community group on facebook and i've actually seen less big issues on that page than the Prado group i'm in. the only bad thing about this vehicle is the intercooler hoses failing at random intervals, there seems to be no minimum life in them and just about everyone upgrades to silicone hoses to avoid problems. i've seen the hoses fail at 13,000km and some didn't fail til well over 100,000km. $300 on top of the price of the car is nothing for a very capable, safe, and comfortable 4x4. once you get used to the way the throttle works the gearbox works quite smooth, and you can actually get a fair amount of control over when it changes using your right foot

I can confirm that this is a great car for school runs, apart from that if you are looking for an off-road vehicle it's pretty lackluster. Also had 2 stuck valves in 1 year under 80k, gearbox is shiiiite and the panels are thinner than rolling papers.

The road itself is so undulating how can you not expect the vehicle to be floaty? Plus talking about your version of sport bit, an SUV is never built to do the corners fast…..you can’t drive a truck on the same track as a Ferrari and expect it to perform the same. Just imagine taking a Ferrari off the road and then saying the off road is soo poor a Lamborghini felt like a land cruiser here……it is very pointless.

This car has the best 4x4 system in its class, very quite ride at cruising speed on the freeway and fuel efficiency is up there with the best in class considering the size of the vehicle. I like that the 4x4 mode can be selected even on sealed surfaces. This car is simple with no unnecessary technology because it is built to last. The suspension is soft tuned for more comfort than handling which is ok considering this car is not a Ferrari. Surprisingly the pajero sport excellent 8 speed auto box is sourced from Toyota owned Aisin, sharing it with the Lexus LX570 and Land Cruiser 5.7L, which are a class above the fortuner. Concerning value for money in the class, theres no better vehicle than the Pajero-Sport. The car has some minor shortcomings though as it could do with a physical volume knob, a more softer steering, standard 360 degree view camera across the range and a push button rear seat folding mechanism. Anyone looking to buy a rugged ladder frame suv should atleast test drive the Pajero-Sport.

Test drove one today as well as the MU-X. Have to say i disagree with you on a few points. Found the mux to be much more dated interior wise.

This is pretty biased Ford fan boy review. Everest costs $20k more than this drive away. For most families that’s an extra car.

I saw an off-road review between the Pajero Sport, D-Max and Everest. The Everest was getting 20L/100K and the other two were 9-10L/100K. With the cameras, there's no protective film on them?

Rear ac vents - can we set temperature for them separately? Even if I turn on heater in the front - all rear vents still blow out cold air.

i find it stupid saying it will take 11 seconds to get to 120k to pass! so what a car goes past and you are on the side of the rd then you get to 120 to pass a vehicle? i assume you would be at worst 80k then need to get to 120 so your measurement should be time between those speeds otherwise you sound like a mong at Disneyland! too excited and making no sense!
