I agree with the first reason. I studied Korean and Japanese in college but am more fluent in Korean and watching Kdramas and variety shows really feels different when you can understand what they're saying even without subtitles. Especially when it comes to jokes like puns.

I can not fully agree with "there's no shortcuts to learning kanji". The following techniques may work only for me, but... I have learned radicals (there are ~200 of them compared to thousands of kanjis), so it can help you remember how to write certain kanji by memorizing which radicals (building blocks) they consist of. Also, I found it useful to turn each kanji I learn into a picture representing its meaning. Maybe someone finds these techniques useful, so I'll leave them here ;)

I’ve been learning with Duolingo. You can learn for free and it teaches you the proper pronunciation as far as I’m aware. For example fu is said more like “who”. And Rs can sounds like Ls a little.
