I am employed with a state agency, and I can literally SEE them failing because they are doing what they have always done- and I'm banging my head against the wall to convert them from the least desirable employer in our state to the most desirable employer in the state. NO vision- it's depressing.

The big company was started by young people with no experience, but only have vision.

Issue with big companies is: the CFO becomes the CEO. Bookkeepers are there for the reality check, to balance out the excitement. But if they lead the company, everything becomes cost-driven instead of vision-driven. If the CFO beecomes the CEO, there is no visionary to balance this out.

But of course, if you're already winning there is no incentive not to be conservative.

Big companies are obsessed with their What.

GM didn't destroy their old electric car experiments to protect their core business. When car companies destroy experimental prototypes like that, it's usually because of government regulations. That's why Chrysler destroyed the jet cars they made in the 1960s.

While I agree with your statement, the federal government can't do this because of the "time in grade" rule. No young intrapreneur can have a title.
