Render Comparison Test 10 (Subsurface Scattering, SSS) - Redshift, Arnold, V-Ray, Mantra -

redshift has the worst caustics and transmission . Its like the dev team said we gotta make it look fake as fuck

vray looks like shit

RS is so pretty but it looks stylized and irridescent. Arnold is great looking and realistic. Meanwhile mantra, idk if its me or what, falls short of even being visible unless the model is directly backlit...

Are you only comparing out of the box settings or are you tuning each renderer for optimum sss results?

Guess no need to invest in a razyen9 cpu for rendering,instead i9 cpu for sim and rtx 2080 should be an ideal workstation if redshift is your main render

Redshift has the worst SSS out there. I love the speed, but they really need to do something about SSS. Glass is another problem.

Arnold most realistic but RS is quickest with very good enough quality.

The redshift rendering speed is amazing, but the effect is not very good, but it is not bad. Arnold uses a lot of rendering time to get good results

Would be interesting to see Vray Next added into the mix with it's upgraded GPU rendering.

Arnold is sss king. Making an ant that has alot of sss and arnold gives good results. Difficult getting the right sss weight and colour though, as it differs so much in the refs i use. Luckily substance painter helps to manually paint the texturemaps and add dirt/imperfections to make it more convincing.

Too bad Arnold charges a small fortune yearly, I'll go with Redshift

btw i'm super dissapointed with v-ray . mediocre results in most of these tests edit : to top it off i purchased it haha

You are doing good job with comparing! But takeout Mantra and add Octane. Will be more interesting. In other way Redshift will be winer all time!
