New Scams to Watch Out For in 2024

Wow, i go through a news feed on the computer and scroll past pages of identical ads for goods, all with the sane wording but a different celebrity endorsement!

TikTok is a great scam

Fake work / remote job, which then requires Increasing Fees, ID etc which will be used, and also target as Mail Mules. Reported one to FBI, as the servers were shared by a Crypto Scam.

❗️Got a snail-mail government 'LAST NOTICE'... 🤔looked up the phone number (internet), it was a furniture store on the East Coast of U.S., NOT the government. Armed with this knowledge, I called the phone number on the mailing. The man that answered wanted to me purchase a PDF 😂😂😂😂 After several minutes he asked me "What do you want ?" I TOLD HIM ➡️ THE TRUTH. He hung up my call❗️😅😂😂😂

It is sad how hard it is for most people to recognize AI generated images from real ones. Even obscure pictures and really bad ones (humans having 4 hands and 20 fingers, fireplaces underneath kitchen sinks etc.) are passed as real. People pay only a second or less attention to social media pictures, but what they see, propably changes their idea of what is real and what is not. These fake pictures have thousands of comments that take the picture for real - There are propably millions who just look, but don't comment.

Amazing. It's getting harder to determine what is fake and what is real. I check on everything to confirm that it is real - like calling the county to find out if a summons or something else was sent from them.

Most of these aren't new scams they are "strangers contacting you with lies". Circumvented by checking legitimacy of whoever contacts you.

With the scam where people are selling fake products generated by AI, it's kinda irrelevant that these products are AI generated. The scam is not that the product is fake, the scam is that they weren't planning to ship you anything in the first place using a dodgy website. Circumvented by checking if a store you are buying from is legit, which you should always be doing anyway.

You forgot voice deep fakes - if there is a clip of you speaking online, someone can use your voice to make it appear you are saying their words. This is going to be a game changer for the grandparent scam.

Facebook ads library is a wall of shame. But not for Zuckerberg, who has no shame. He'll take any ad revenue.

Facebook doesn't care about you getting scam on their platform they are not doing anything to stop the scam that goes on in Marketplace

Facebook doesn't care about ad scams as long as they get paid.
Same with Google where I've reported the same scam AI clone impersonation ad many, many times, but it's still there.

I once called a police department for some questions. People there did not help me much. After a week and several months later, I got the same person kept calling me and pretended to be someone at the police department. He was trying to collect money for the department fund. The last time, I screamed at him and saying, "Hey, you got the federal pay you more than me, why do you still want to get more money". That was the last time for him to call me!

One new scam I almost fell for a couple of days ago - Scammers post a fake job ad on Ziprecruiter with the "one click easy apply", and if you have a resume on Ziprecruiter, just click the button. I found a government job on Ziprecruiter and hit the button. The next day I got an email (my email address was on my resume) saying that with my qualifications, I was "short-listed" for the job and needed to log onto an unaffiliated web-site, create an account, and pay a registration fee to complete the application process (Government never does this). Also, the email came from a gmail account and not a .gov account. The name of the person listed as a contact at the bottom of the email did not match the name of the person of the gmail account that sent the email.

If you're job hunting, watch out for this one.

A nurse in New York just lost - $24,000.00 - it is called - spoofing - the caller ID had the bank name and number, and they using some kind of - APPS - to be able to do it

The big scam the US has is Joe Biden playing the President. What a scam.

Fakebook is FULL of scammy merchandise. Being I am into RC planes and cars, I get lot of fake sites trying to sell name brand RC products at pennies on the dollar. I know exactly what prices are on all the real products and know better. The community of RC folks generally let everyone know about those scams. What I like is when you read the fake reviews on these products. " I purchased two of these for my sons" yeah, SURE you did. The Marketplace scammers always want a code. They always respond within an hour of my posting an item for sale. Their facebook account is usually the same year as the response to an item. Scammers generally go after older people . Watch for items for sale from a major store being closed at " liquidation prices".

FB leaves these scams on the site, but if you hurt their feelings with a comment about Biden or Harris they kick you off. Good Grief 🤦🏼‍♀️😡💩

Another scam that people do is pressing the add more time button at a car wash. Always let the time run out. My buddy had it happen to him. He left while the timer was still counting down and someone pulled up and pressed add more time. They eventually racked up a small amount extra on his card and he couldn't do anything about it. People nowadays find more and more ways to scam others. It's that throwaway, care less about others, and scam society we live in.

Why isn't fb taking these down. I report these fake adds only to be told by fb that it doesnt go against their community standards. Fb is a scam run by Z.

THE AI voice cloning ads are crazy. With the rock and Selena. They show short clips on them talking on camera. Try to make it match with their AI voice lol

AI has became insanely good , some images like Photography of landscapes and Nature is crazy good. And not everybody is aware of this fakes.

We're going to get to a point where you can only trust things that physically exist OFFLINE.

And that time can't come soon enough.
