I have had my 21 CT Ural to 81 mph (indicated). I can cruise solo 65-70mph no problem. There is brakes on the car, bike will stop amazingly fast. We have over 20,000 miles is about 18 months. Perfect to run errands with, what other motorcycle rig can you haul 6 50 lb sacks of fish food with! You will learn the fine art of sidecarage! So much fun!
ОтветитьWife and I (each have our own) have been riding Urals since 2015. We have put in 50,000 miles each on them and are planning many more miles! Absolutely the most fun we've ever had. We just did an east coast tour from Georgia to Maine last summer. We run the 1WD versions (me on a Retro) and find them far more civil on highways and paved roads than the 2WD. You are right, we take all our gear with us with room to spare.
ОтветитьI always wanted to ride a urinal :)
ОтветитьUral- nowhere fast, everywhere fun! I had open heart surgery, and kicked off 2 wheels. (been riding since 1967) Got our first Ural 8 years ago, and are now on our 4th! Even if I COULD I would not go back to 2 wheels. Wish I could post photos of donuts in the snow, rustic rural roads, flying the chair, and all with my ever faithful Boss Monkey wife. (BTW- she IS the boss! SHE picked out the last 2 rides) Once you figure out that each bike has a personality its own, and you learn YOU are riding IT and IT is in control the world opens up. Yup- Loud, cranky, finicky, bitchy old tractor Russian Mistresses. And I cant get enough of our 2018 Ural Gear up!
ОтветитьDork, I have a 2020 Gear Up along with a few other bikes. It is definitely a different ride experience but so much fun. Dressed it up like Santa Sleigh and with US flags for 4th of July. It is what it is! Fun in deep snow for sure.
ОтветитьSomething I never expected to hear from somebody riding a Ural " I'd better slow down"😊.
ОтветитьGreat video guys! I am looking to pick up my first Ural, after riding Harleys for decades, and I tend do disagree with your comment that the Urals are “not very practical.” While I agree that they are quite expensive, I live in upstate NY in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, and this is the only motorcycle that I can realistically see being able to ride 12 months per year.
ОтветитьI've been thinking about getting one of these for many years and "This is dumb, I love it." is kind of my thing.
Ответитьin aus i have a 2016 ural ranger i live in rural area most my riding on dirt back rds it FUN
ОтветитьI’ve had one for 3 years and I still smile and laugh like the idiot you were on your first ride. None of my other 4 bikes give me that sake laughing time. Too bad you didn’t fly the car with your buddy in there. It behaves more like a bike then. Best camping platform ever. Wife and I did NC yo Canada on largely dirt roads on MABDR and NEBDR. Get one!
ОтветитьFun video. I've had one since I bought it new in 2021. After a relatively brief learning curve I got the hang of it (been on 2 wheels almost 40 years). Once you learn how it behaves in various situations, it is a much calmer ride that you show here. But it remains an absolute blast to ride. I've been on a couple of long camping trips--it worked very well. I've been on "stupid" off road tracks with huge rocks and made it through. The 2WD makes it fun and capable in snow and mud etc. As far as setup is concerned, I declined the awful windscreen and run it naked. The racks are great. There are only a couple of tire choices, and with any shenanigans at all like sliding the rear in left turns, you'll eat a rear tire in 1500-2000 miles. If you want one, buy it! There are bargains on used units too, but I wouldn't go much earlier than 2016 or you'll be dealing with an antique.
ОтветитьI have a 2018 ural gear up, best thing I ever bought. You guys summed up pretty much what its like owning a ural, nice video.
ОтветитьThank you for doing this video. Yes I use my URAL every day and go camping. I also installed a trailer hitch/winch. Try it.
ОтветитьI smiled the whole way through this! This looks epic.
Keep up the great content and excellent reviews. 👏👏👏
"Claymores! Claymores! If you'd deployed a little recon you would say that Charlie has us surrounded."
ОтветитьHacks: Roll on throttle, outfit pulls right; roll off throttle or apply brakes, hack pulls left. Front brake is still majority of braking power.
Cornering requires shifting weight to inside. Move those hips and hang off.
Once you go hack, you’ll never go back. Been riding Urals since 2004. Last motorcycle I’d ever sell.
Urals are very stupid fun. I've had one for a couple years now and it's one of my favorite rides. You become very popular when you show up to a group campout with a keg in your tub!
ОтветитьI’d love to have one, but in olive drab green!
ОтветитьStupid video and filming
ОтветитьOk, so I love your channel! I do not have an adventure bike, I have a sport bike (well, sportish, Ninja 650) but love camping... i'm going motocamping weekend after next down by Eugene for the first time and going solo...
I'd love to go on the BLM and boondock, but i'm not sure if there are any around us (i live in mcminnville) that are accessible without an adventure style bike.
So to the question, are there any free camp sites or areas that are around us here that would have free camping that are accessible via a sport bike?
I want a Ural so bad, but their dealer is so far away from me. It looks like so much fun
Ответитьthat's great, i love the idea of a sidecar on anything! have you ever done a video about trailers for adv bikes?
ОтветитьVery entertaining content! You guys are hilarious 😂
ОтветитьSurely you and your mate going camping in that fully loaded and seeing what it can do in the mud and trails would be the best advert for ural. I know for a fact these things are amazing offroad for what they are. I'd definitely love to see that video!
ОтветитьImagine how much camping crap you could bring along!
ОтветитьAwesome. So I guess the yellow is caterpillar yellow sent it handles like heavy equipment as you said.😅
It would be cool if I put another wheel in the front of the Sidecar and then made them bowl steer and then put more of a body around it with comfortable seats and the radio in an air conditioner Lol. Jk. I kinda like it. I think it would be fun to have. I think they have some that let you lean and the sidecar leans with it, I’m guessing those are a little more high-performance, but I think this would still be fun just for around on.
I have a friend who has two.
ОтветитьThanks for making me laugh 🤣🤣
ОтветитьI have a sidecar on my GS. OMG loads of fun! My wife enjoys it way more than riding pillion. My daughter likes the ice cream trips to “far off places.” My son loves camping with it. We’ve done a few BDR sections with plans for more. We get way more attention than any 2-wheeler on the road or trail!
ОтветитьI love these bikes, but I hear they are super unreliable. I would love to have a bike with a sidecar to put my dog in. LoL
ОтветитьThat sidecar is cool. I really liked the Africa twin with matching sidecar on it that was at giant loop. That beast was real cool. Great video.
ОтветитьLooks fun. There is a dealer about 3 hours from me. I used to try to keep up on there used stuff. I just can't do it.
ОтветитьThe grating downshifts that you experience can be minimized by coordinated rev matching each change, as you would in a heel-toe operation of a manual gear box,. That's how I was taught to do it in the '60's, regardless of the bike's final drive geometry
ОтветитьMine was set up with twin bash plates and high exhaust. It was a ton of fun off-road. The two wheel drive pulled me right through 10-12 inch sand more than once.😎
ОтветитьIt’s unlike anything else. That’s why I like it.
ОтветитьIn Australia I met a Frenchman riding a Ural around the world. He said his wife would occasionally fly to where he was in the world at the time and spend a week or two with him and then fly home.
ОтветитьThat is so cool!
ОтветитьMy wife and I love camping on our Ural -- had it 6 months now. What a coincidence, I just posted on your video of the siskiyou panniers! Shifting requires a 'stomp' on the heel/toe shifter for a nice clean 'clunk'. It's a blast and also great for trips around town. I've had ours to 85... It cruises fine at 65/70 - hills and wind are a challenge, especially when loaded up. We trailered it up to Long Island and did Manhattan and Cupsogue Beach - it was fantastic in the city and in the sand! Two wheel drive!
ОтветитьImagine all the camping gear you could pack in that
ОтветитьAlways good videos
ОтветитьIt’s on my list. Met 4 people who bought them in Alaska and were on their way to San Francisco were they already had a buyer for both bikes. It’s to bad you didn’t get to fly the side car going around some corners. In Washington state you have to in order to pass the drivers test.
ОтветитьA new Ural is north of $18,000. That’s ridiculous
ОтветитьADVENTURE URAL like an ADENTURE GROM??? Ah possibilities 😂
ОтветитьI LOVE the joy expressed in this vid. The idea of sidecars are really cool, but the practicalities are somewhat interesting to consider. Would definitely make motocamping easier and taking children and dogs along for a ride. Sell your quad and replace it with one of these. You know you want to do it, Ben!
ОтветитьWhen are you going to review the DR650?!!!
I value your opinion and am eager to hear your thoughts!!!
I drove one many years ago, and it was the worst motorcycle ever made, it was fine for a minute but boy, everything was bad on it, no power, bad breaks, bad lights, horrible!
ОтветитьOnly sidecar bike I ever rode was an ancient bmw r60, and even though I only had it up to 30 on a one mile round trip test ride (owner seemed to think the carbs needed synced) it was probably the most terrifying thing I've ever rode. It was an experience I was glad to have, but also not a thing I want in my life.
ОтветитьWhat a riot, too laughable 😂🤪🤣🤣🤣
