I have come across a scam in Instagram dms before. I am an artist but I don't do commissions (yet at least). It was one of the "I would like a birthday present for my child" ones. It was easy to tell it was a scam because I told them I don't do commissions and if I did I wouldnt be able to work on it because I knew I was going into a period in the semester at school where I had little to no free time. But they kept on pushing and pushing for me to accept the payment and I firmly told them no and blocked them.

Yah the client sent me $300 and the the skrill need $200 again from my client so she sent again and the skrill email me that I need to refund my client first with 200 with my own money to receive the 500.
The email from skrill also said that may name and address will be sent to authorities if I field to refund my client. But how I can refund I don't have even $100 in my account.

I had another scam attempt on Facebook last night. By far IG has been worse though!

Some more things to look out for, specifically on Instagram… the more that are present, the more suspicious it is:
• Strange or fake-sounding name, such as Tarmacus Flangan or Ocen Mughal
• Profile pic does not seem to match name
• No or few posts with a disproportionate number of followers (account may sometimes be private)

People lately don't like Etsy but Etsy takes care of all the problem at the point of transaction by holding the money from a buyer for two weeks before sending money to the artist. While the money is on hold the buyer and transaction is verified and after the hold is released to the artist by then the buyer is not allowed to have their money back once the money after the holding period is paid to the artist. Etsy can refund the buyer's money during that holding period if anything is wrong. So the refund and charge backs are sorted out by Etsy saving artists a lot of the hassle with difficult and bad customers and scammers.

Thank you!!! I was almost scammed this way. The scammer seemed so genuine, even had “family” photos. No grammatical errors either. I was definitely bummed though, at the time I was beginning to sell my work again and it was really discouraging!

Ive been getting a lot of those on discord through the servers im in. thats why I have a "No Soliciting" thing in my BIO so see who is and who is not trying to scam me.

thanks for this video, im currently chatting with someone and i was careful from the start but im pretty sure its a scam, they immediately offered 300 for a pet portrait and the detaills about the pet and the son,,, i did give away my email so ill need to be even more careful now
