Backbonefast is Cisco’s proprietary extension to STP algorithm, which helps to recover from indirect link failures on the switch. An indirect link failure is detected when an inferior BPDU is received. Backbonefast speeds up the entire process of port transition from blocking to forwarding state by eliminating MaxAge stage. This video show an example of configuration of Spanning-tree Protocol BackboneFast feature. It is completed in Cisco VIRL.
