Mars = Ares (Ares was the ancient Greek god of war or, more properly, the spirit of battle. He represented the distasteful aspects of brutal warfare and slaughter. Ares was never very popular, and his worship was not extensive in Greece.) mostly worshipped in Thrace

I think to say Snorris lens is a christian lens is way too simple.
Especially because people associate so many things with this word.
Snorri was an Icelander of the 13th century. The conversion had happened only recently and he claims he sourced his work from someone who had been a heathen in his lifetime.
Furthermore most poems are most likely not influenced by christianity. As the whole reason Snorri made his work, is to educate people on the poems, which were disappearing from the main discourse very quickly after christianization (I assume due to their heathen nature).

So to me, the dating that is done on some of these poems, being supposedly of post christian seems quite unlikely. Perhaps christian additions, but no origin.

He is wrong. The Romans provided plenty of details about the tribes they encountered. They were a valuable pre-Christian source. Also, the Christian sources were not lying. In fact the Christian standard has been to always tell the truth so yes I do believe these early sources. Tragically what upended our understanding of the past was Marxism and athieism, two VERY anti-Christian worldviews.

The pre Christian traditions all had the same deities but since the tribes had been separated the names and mythologies became different. We all have common origin and so does the pre-christian spiritual tradition. Same deities. Different names. Similar stories. Hinduism is best preserved. Brahma Vishnu and Rudra are Odin Thor and Loki, also Ptah Ra and Osiris, An Enlil and Enki, Zeus Poseidon and Hades etc. = Creator Sustainer and Destroyer, Consciousness. The goddesses are same. Freya Frigga and Hella are Lakshmi Saraswati and Kali etc. (the goddesses represent matter while the gods represent consciousness) Same deities. Same tradition. Diff names. Myths also same but told differently. Freya resembles Isis because She is Isis. Shakti in Hinduism. Frey is Shiva ... Osiris.
Oh good grief. I wish people would figure this out!!!

We should be saying Germanic paganism. Norse mythology was based on Christianity a lot and stories changed/made. Odin/Thor are German and always will be. Norse can worship anyone they like but as said German Odin/Thor from what Is known is older than 2000 years easily and Norse is mostly borrowed from Germans. I wear T shirts of German Woden/Odin often incase people want to understand real berserkers and true bloodlines of the God's. Norse are a beautiful people but inferior to Germans. There is a reason Germany is called Germany and Norse went west to Britain a lot because Germans are a stronger people but celts are close behind and Norse are bit behind Germans :) Not racist or anything just science is science and known history is known history.

Roman soldier: "Who's your main god?"
Germanic tribesman: "Wodan."
Roman soldier: "Who?"
24 AD :
Roman soldier: "Who is your war god?"
Frisian: "Come to the woods not far from your fort, and we'll introduce you to her."
Roman soldier: "HER??? Your war god is a WOMAN???"
Frisian: * evil grin * "Yeah... Her name is Baduhenna. You'll like her."

If you don't understand the joke here, look up "The Battle of Baduhenna Wood".

If you are looking for heruli. The name of our city is Heru. The people of the city are called Heruli. Heru city is located in Azarbaijan, Iran. But the Persians changed the name of our city to Khalkhal. Of course, the Persians are trying to change the names of all our cities and villages. It is said that in the past, perhaps thousands of years ago, warriors or soldiers practiced war in our city. And because of this, the name of our city is known as Heru. Fars still could not change the names of several villages in our city. The name of the village is Borgehim. And the village is Berga. And the village is Warsva. Of course, these are the names of several villages out of hundreds of villages in our city. Are these names not familiar? About two hundred years ago, the government spread the Kurds in our villages at the request of the British. Although more than ten villages now speak Kurdish. But some Kurdish-speaking families settled in all our villages. It is clear that it was to change our race. Of course, this action has also happened to the Turkish-speaking cities of Iraq. Now it is known that the Kurds in Iranian Kurdistan have Arab roots. Maybe they have a few percent of the Indian race and the yellow race. Did the English want to change our race to Arabic? What made England want to change our race. At the present time, Fars wants to change our race to Arabic. Because the Persian race is also of the Arab race. Now, in the map, the name berga has been changed to the word "flag" in Arabic or Farsi. If you look at the rb haplogroup map, the path is the same. When you and others moved to Europe you mixed with Northern European races or in Europe. And new races were born. The Indo-European race is also a lie. There is no rb in Fars, Iran, nor in India. Even the Persian language is Arabic. The Persians presented themselves as pure German. And they despised everyone. Now it is known that the Persians are of the Arabian Arabian race. If it wasn't for genetic science, Fars would still identify itself as German. Almost 30 years ago, I went to Kerman. Almost 40 people had gathered in a spring near the village. I was stoned for being a Mongol. And if one person in this crowd looked like a European, it was me. But the villagers thought they were Germans. Still, those who did not take a genetic test assume that they are German. The new German race consists of several European races. It is completely different from the German race of 3000 years ago. All races changed. There are still people who do not understand why the race of Turkey and Greece is different from 3000 thousand years ago. The Ottoman government ruled dozens of Arab countries and the people of these countries came to the center of the Ottoman government to have a better life. It is clear that the race will change. The breeds that are now in Europe are a new breed. When you and others moved to Europe you mixed with Northern European races or in Europe. And new races were born. I know a couple ancient chants against curses and you have more modern ones like, sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. People sometimes delude themselves into believing the modern fairy tales of sorcery. Words smith can heal or cause harm, as can bragi bards. A singing woman on a spinning wheel , loom or sowing cloth, A black smith doing a timing chant. A woman knowledge of healing ,plants , herbs and treatment of wounds and sickness . All about real knowledge and skills. Not real magic . A hunter will of course give a offering to the god of the hunt to increase his chances of coming across a buck or his arrow flying true .If successfully he will give a offering taken from the hunt. The modern age is full of very tall tales full of sorcery and monsters that are not designed to be true only to entertain. healing knowledge can be used to heal or murder . Evil woman and men where put to death in pagan times for their crimes. False Words can be used to turn man against man. to incite hatred and harm. Oath breakers caught at trial speaking false word put to slow death for his crime, a man claiming before all of his killing of another man, giving exile instead of death for not concealed his deed, not blaming others for his crime. All know his guilt, Man vs man, blades drawn in anger, Laws of the Germanic peoples. Such was the exile of Erik the red who went to Greenland in his exile with his men and created the Greenland colony. Manslaughter was his crime not murder, he did not conceal it, he did not hide it, all know of his deed, it was manslaughter not murder. When he died fighting the Christians, his son Leif Erickson took his title of chieftain, He put his days of exploration and high adventure behind him, No more trips to Canada. The invasion of Norway by Christians may of well of prevented the colonization of the new world. One must seek the truth not the lies

Offerings are like gifts to get a god to notice you in the hope she or he aids you in some small way. Make your arrows fly truer on a hunt or increase your chance of coming across a big buck. What about a safe birth or a woman conceiving, Frig and Freya. What would you offer the goddess of beauty and youth, She already has the best apples in the universe? She may not be able to collect the gift . perhaps its more about the thought that went into the offering. You are not just taking. That falls a little close to the ideal of a gift for a gift. you may be asking for a favor. would the offering have to be something that can be destroyed? A statue or shrine may seem like a even greater gift that may even increase her reputation on this world or make her name better known. Fame.
