Aliens would be smart to stay away and not contact us. Anything the USA touches will just turn into the DMV or ATF. Looks like the aliens are enjoying freedom too much, needs more laws, taxes and inspiration-stifling bureaucracy. Hitchhiker's Guide the movie had the aliens working the DMV type jobs, but it would be us that force it on them, no doubt.

MR WEBB, I KNOW YOU HAVE HEARD OF THE UFO ORGANIZATIONS? AIRFORCE PILOTS, COMMERICIAL PILOTS HAVE SEEN UFOS. ORGANIZATIONS HAVE SEEN, CREDIBLE PEOPLE HAVE MONITORED UFO'S. HAVE YOU CONTACTED THESE PEOPLE,ORGANIZATIONS. RICHARD DOLAN EVEN. LINDA MOULTON HOWE. EVEN THE ANIMALS ON EARTH COMMUNICATE BY SIGN LANGUAGE. LIKE CATS. SOME COMMUNICATE BY SMELL. SO LOOKING JUST AT RADIO SIGNALS ARE. NOT THE ONLY WAY COMMUNICATION IS DONE.

The scientist says everybody has a camera and I don't see any ufo's on them, Go outside with your phone Look up in the air, Find a Jet and take a video of it,Good luck with that. The camera in your phone is good for Things that are up close not far away Even worse if you zoom in. Try it those phones suck at it. Take one to an air show film all of it You will delete it phone is just not good at it. I think we're alone I don't think there's anything out there. I'm just telling you what I think of the phone And as far as propes from another civilization Sending them here to watch us They fly weird they crash All sorts of strange things these UFO's do. Now go look and see what we do with ours Not much different. We crash them into planets half the time we crash them into the planet we're trying to send them too And when we're done with them, we just leave them Sitting with a nuclear biscuit inside of them Our probes are just as weird as their probes. I guess there's just faster if there's such a thing.

why assume that other civilizations started out as biological instead of digital? i think it far easier to randomly assemble molecules into integrated circuits than into a living organism capable of self replication.

Perhaps the WOW signal was a one off innovative attempt by an alien scientist to send a message; but his superiors immediately cut off funding. As for the prokaryotic transition to eukaryotic; there were perhaps quintillions of opportunities for it to occur over millions of years. There only needs to be a slight advantage for it to evolve and improve.

Perhaps even more fundamental than Fermi's Paradox is whether Einstein is right - and that lightspeed is the limit. I think Einstein is correct, that an object with rest mass can never reach the speed of light, but I also think there will be ways around this rule, where we move space with us, so we can travel much faster than light when our arrival date and time is considered.
The Fermi Paradox is a very different beast if lightspeed is not the limit. And in my view, the older the universe is, the more I am convinced that some form of the ZOO hypothesis is correct. But I am also convinced that no UFO sighting has ever been aliens. You'll only ever see an alien [ThingName] if they want you/us to see it.

But I am a weird guy who rejects time dilation, because clocks don't measure time. They measure oscillations of something - which necessarily slow down as they gain relativistic mass as velocity rises. This because all particles must conserve momentum, and vibrate more slowly as their total mass increases. So there is no Twins Paradox, and Einstein was wrong about many things. But he was correct about the variable speed of light, and the existence of the ether - which is space. We just don't know what space actually is yet.

One solution I like which I haven't heard anyone advance, so i don't know if anyone else has suggested this is the static niche paradigm.
What is the Static Niche Paradigm? First, I made it up, but, I don't think it's without merit. Second, I see merit in this because of Sharks. Sharks? Yes, Sharks have been sharks for around 300 MILLION years, and have remained mostly the same with some off-shoots and variations, but central to shark, sharks are mostly the same they were for a couple hundred Million years.
What does this have to do with Fermi Paradox? It can be applied to the Fermi Paradox in response to the common statement of "aliens Millions of years older than us", implying significantly more sophisticated technological development beyond our own. The problem with that, however, is that we have sharks that have had 300 Million years to invent velcro, bicycles, tube socks, and much more, but, they haven't. Sharks have found a niche they seem to be quite happy with. There are many other species we could also apply this to, but the point is that there may be aliens, even technological aliens that have found a niche, and never advanced beyond air conditioning, microwave ovens, and jet skis. They've reached a level of technological sophistication and development that checks every box they need, and have had zero impetus toward advancement beyond what they've already achieved, and have been like that for so long, they may even lack the ability to innovate.
We see a little bit of this in China and Japan before European contact where a social, cultural structure and tradition existed that were not too conducive in fostering innovation. Those cultures had traditions placing more weight on a traditional culture than for incubating invention. Explosive powder, for instance, was well known in China and Japan before European contact, but it took other cultures to apply that explosive powder toward the realization of firearms, and cannon.
As such, going back to aliens, there very well could be be similar instances of Static Niche. This could be related to Great Filter, but, these cultures could be very successful, lasting millions of years sustainably without any sign of stopping, but also not even the barest of itch for advancement beyond a certain level of development.
There's a Novel by Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven called The Gripping Hand illustrating an alien species with high levels of technological advancement, as well as the facility to intuitively grasp new concepts and ideas in short savant like time, but, they never go beyond a certain point of development until humans come along to catalyze new development where humans set an example of concepts and engineering the gripping hand aliens never ever considered before.
So, sharks, gripping hand aliens, static niches.

I've been to 3 or 4 air shows in the past 10 years. And what I notice is cellphones suck at trying to capture a jet on them. They take beautiful pictures of something sitting still, but anything in motion And far away they are horrible. You can try yourself go outside with your cell phone and try and take a picture Or a video of a commercial jet Good luck with that, Those cameras were not made to do it. And now I just noticed how old this video is And nobody's ever gonna read this. But if you do let me what you think.

Goodness, the idea of actually being completely alone in the universe is a little spooky but I think it almost puts a nearly religious-like mandate on our species to basically go whole hog on the colonization concept. Just 'be there until the end' because we won't be ruining anyone else's good time.

Like imagine endless uninhabited continents with no aboriginal inhabitants to exploit or contend with. That makes so many things so much easier for us in so many ways... pending our actual ability to get anywhere. And that might be the horrifying irony of it all. Maybe even the closest star is just an impossible distance to traverse by any realistic physical means. Too much radiation, too hard to keep organisms alive on a generational ship, depressingly low maximum speeds making the distances too far. I would hope the universe didn't come into being with that tragic of a story for its only children.

Cutting short a very long explanation perhaps it is time we believe that there truly is a god like entity that planted life and created all of this. The very existence of life our planet and the prfect conditions for life to exist seeing how it is impossible anywhere else even within nearby planets really looks incredibly impossible without the possibility of a god like entity.

Fermi was a little unrealistic when he assumed that all animals in a forest would be too dangerous so that man passing through it took utmost care not to give away his presence. He had never had a intercourse with the forest animals ( if he was certain that they were there) so that possibility was that they might be friendly or neutral or even not capable of harming him. After all he was a human far far advanced than the animals and at the least as advanced as the animals( after all he had the capability to come to the forest and look into it)More over curiosity is some thing ,it can over ride all dangers .Therefore Fermi's Paradox appears untrue. All logics of "no body is there or no body is interested to investigate or every body there is fearful of betraying his presence or all onlookers come to an end before they are capable of looking etc are far out weighed by the fact that there may be innumerable places where beings becoming capable of investigating might be expected.

How often is intelligence actually selected for in nature? For hundreds of millions of years, all natural pressures lead to physical adaptations. Speed, strength, camouflage, vision, etc. even though intelligence would clearly be more beneficial.. And yet, it was only humans that adapted their mind rather than their body. Maybe that’s the cause of the fermi paradox. Life is everywhere- it’s just insanely rare that intelligence is selected for rather than physical adaptations.
