I like to Zoom In while fishing. It doesn't increase the size of the bar, it just makes it look bigger. I can see it better and can see when the fish is about to go outside the green bar. I've made more Perfect catches since doing this

Early start to fishing is better. Spend the 25g to buy a training rod from Willy. The training rod has a fixed size for the bar that is the same as having level 5 fishing. The fish in Spring are the easiest to catch (with some rare exceptions). Planting potatoes and fishing on the pier in spring will let you build up a supply of ingredients to make Dish of the Sea, which gives a +3 fishing buff. While Sea Foam Pudding gives a better bonus, it is much harder to gather the ingredients. Dish of the Sea is just potatoes and sardines. You get the recipe at Fishing level 3 and you can buy the recipe for Hashbrowns from Gus for 50g.

Avoid fishing on the farm (unless you are using the Riverlands or Beach farm). The ponds on the farm mostly give trash. The ponds are great for crab pots so you can collect freshwater shellfish from them. The freshwater shellfish make excellent crafting material for recipes that use any fish. Don't forget to put some crab pots on the Beach to get saltwater shellfish. The saltwater shellfish are slightly higher in value, but it isn't a huge difference. It is easier to manage the pots if you line the docks with them. Oh, and buy bait from Willy. At 5g each I think its worth your time to sell some shellfish to pay for the bait. Sashimi sells for 75g each, which is 15 bait, so get Linus up to 2 hearts to start making good money from shellfish! You'll need to upgrade your house for a kitchen too. Gotta spend money to make money.

Get the training rod from Willie on day 3 of Spring when its raining and fish in the river. Use the escape key to make sure the first fish you reel in is a catfish. That gives you the most difficult river fish for the Community Centre nice and early with no risk of losing it.

Thanks to your previous tips I finally managed to catch All the legendary fish. I gotta say though the octopus & lava eel were the hardest for me.

Is the burning plant in the start intentional or a mod issue? I had all my braziers as well as Linus campfire replaced by the same burning plant when 1.6 came out due to unknown mod issue.

You know you missed mentioning a very useful tip if you want to hit those water bubbles. As you cast out the real you can curve the tackle to go right or left by pressing the move left or right buttons on your keyboard. You can curve the tackle as far as 2 squares from the center.

My farm used to be called "Fishing sucks" and after two years I was forced to get it to lvl10 because of 1.16 and masteries. I kid you not, it took me 10 days or less, in winter! It really is that easy. Just go fish. Get some bait, the best rod you can get, and fish.

Fishing is no fun, I don't really get how to make the bar go where I want it, and the bouncing on the ends doesn't help either. Getting better seems to be the only option.
