I'm surprised Virtual Riot doesn't know this, but the in-the-red mix does not sound like it is clipping within ableton because you are hearing it still in its 32bit audio stage. In 32 bit you have a lot of headroom above 0. When the audio is actually bounced down to a consumer listenable format (aka anything 24 or 16 bit) then you will definitely hear the clipping artifacts, and I suspect this is why he goes on to say that he notices it sounds fine in the studio but then he hears the cilpping in headphones later (studio 32bit playback vs emailed 24/16 bit audio file listening later on your iphone)
