It's a mess but a fun mess. I do commend them for trying to get in as much as possible from the start of the first war. Even if a few liberties were taken with the lore for the sake of making it fit into the confines of 1 movie.

This story in the books and games is actually very good, however it is minimum a 10 hour story if you're going to tell it to people who don't already know the universe.
So they tried to change things around and compress the timeline etc to make it into one movie, and that just didn't work.
I'm convinced that if they stayed true to the original story, and gave it 3 movies instead of 1, it would have been quite epic.

You have to take this as consideration it's a video game/story created like 20-30 years ago, it's like watching mario lol... Also the Warcraft Universe is massive and the story is too much.. You can't fit all this in to triliogy , so they try to squeeze everything in to 2 hours lol that's why it so bad.

I was gonna compare this to LOTR Trilogy since that world is also huge... but then again you comparing Actuall thought out book to a video game. That put little to no effort in story writtings and changed things multiple times because the LORE FANS found many loop holes and issues only recently..!

Frost Mourne is from the World of Warcraft lore. It's wielded by The Lich King, who would have probably appeared in either the second movie as a kid, or the third movie. The story of Arthus and Silvanas is very Shakespearian and would have been epic but would not be able to fit in a single movie.

Don't know, the film is cool and well done on my taste. People are too strict in criticizing it, surprisingly.

I get why completely alien to the universe people would feel like this movie is meh, but at the same time my mom (I'm 34 right now) all of the sudden wanted to go and see it and she absolutely loved it without knowing a damn thing. There'd a good argument about them trying to stick wayyy too much into the short running time, yeah. And personally, I don't get the CGI argument against this film, and honestly this looks dope af, kinda like the good old action movies. It's essentially the cinema-long cinematic that all Warcraft fans long wanted. Sad that it only ever made bank in China, would love to see more Warcraft on the screen.

The pace was one of the major issues (I think someone used Drums of War before editing.. lol). Everything just moved too fast, very little set up. And some scenes were really weird. Art direction was absolutely on point, everything was beautiful. We need a 3 hour long Director's Cut.

I still think they should have made a Warcraft III movie, maybe even turn it into a trilogy, but this film was still fun. I think it suffered from not really allowing anything to breathe. It was constantly moving at a breakneck pace. If I could go back, it would be cool to make two films, one from the Orc's perspective and one from the Human's perspective, intertwining the narrative making for a richer, fuller whole. That probably would not be economical with the budget but damn would it have been cool.

if you are a student of the game, you would know that King Laine Wrynn, when he entrusts his wife and other child to his son, who is Varian, becomes king after Laines' death and ascends to the throne in Legion and Varian's son is Anduin, who is the current king and leader of the alliance.

Your right the film is too fast paced and edited crazy; that’s because Duncan Jones original cut was chopped down from 3 1/2 hrs by Producers forcing the editors to trim it under 2 hrs.
The same happened with John Carter; that film had a 3 hr 15 min cut the Disney Producer forced it cut down.

The main reason is $$$; these Producers want more showings per day as Studios get 75% of their profits from the first two weeks.


Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven had the same Studio interference, but he threatened lawsuit if they didn’t allow him to create a 3 hr 30 min finished Director’s Cut. The difference is amazing; the Studio theatrical cut is like 2.5 stars and is hated but the Director’s Cut is a 4.5 star critically lauded classic.
This is a prime example of why Studio Producers should never be involved in the finished product; they are not artisans but money managers

I actually enjoy this movie, yeah its a bit crazy at the end but it's entertaining.....but I don't get why everyone says Llane's plan is crazy. Durotan is dead, they have no allies/agents in the Horde. Garona becoming revered is the only chance they have to divide the enemy force. It's really the only endgame possible within the framework of the story being told.

As a warcraft player before WoW it's not that they were convinced they'd have a sequel. It's that the movie covers the original story.

Happens to see your reaction one year later. You keep saying this movie goes so fast. That is why people complained and didn't like the movie even warcraft fans. Warcraft has tons of lore.
It should have been a 3hours movie to make it right. But the studios decided not to do that. Even the director stated his complains about not beeing the size it should have been. It is sad becasue Warcraft movies could be like LOFTR or maybe series like GOT.

My wife and I watch this movie 2 or 3 times a year.

They did so much setup with medivh, garona, and her child that doesnt even pay off in the actual game. Half space goat, half orc has a part human child who is a magik god.

Warcraft lore is immense. The history of Warcraft in 23 minutes makes for a good pairing with this movie for the uninitiated. The orc baby you called Moses is Goell, renamed by the humans after growing up a slave. Known as the badass shaman warchief Thrall, a.k.a Green Jesus. Easy to get lost in this without knowing the lore.

I remember one horror movie where the guy slept with a collar on because his girlfriend was a vampire and tended to try and bite him when startled awake. What gets me is Corona telling Guldan he'll lose the horde if he kills Lothar for love instead of letting him do it and have the invasion fall apart.

As Warcraft RTS fan this mivie sucks. It is very unfaithfyluk to the lore.

I think one of the problems with this movie is that it got rushed and really kind of feels unfinished. Fans were begging for a Warcraft movie for years before they finally decided to make one. I remember there being some kind of delay in production near the initial release date and fans were disappointed at having to wait even longer. I think they just said to hell with it and just threw together what they had and hoped it would be enough. This movie really deserves a Remastered Directors Cut.

This is a fan service movie. That should say it all in regards to why it baffles some people and some others think it's perfectly reasonable.

This movie was a weird choice since there are way better stories to tell in wow but I loved the movie as a wow fan and Guldan was badass in the movie. Also there is another movie in the making it comes out sometime in the future

I loved this movie. I watched it in the cinema 3 times. I don't mind fast pacing as I understand lore I'm happy I see all the different locations. I already know the characters so I don't need so much character development. So yeah it is a movie for Warcraft fans. However, the lore in the film is not true to the original lore. That is the only thing I disliked. A sequel wouldn't make much sense because they would also have to change it.

I actually liked the language switching. I thought it was an effective way to do it.

Warcraft movie absolutly has a charm, and few of the scenes are strong, but the rest of the movie works a little bit weird.

u need to read the story line and ull understand the movie more. the baby is thrall who leads the horde in warcraft. there is so much to the lore. if they would of slowed it down and did it the way lord of the rings and hobbit dose it we would of ended up with 30+ movies easy. the storyline starts way way way before this point but warcraft 1 storyline starts around orcs invasion of azeroth do to the legion/demons. if u read the storyline trust me as most people do ull love it and then understand and love the movie alot more and wish more were made. alot of critics who dont know the storyline hated the movie unfortunately thats why no more were made

For people who knew nothing going into this movie, it needed to be longer, or even broken into 2. The Orcs are fleshed out very well, but the human side lacks something that makes them feel like the comic relief rather than people we care about. If you've been following the games for decades, however, it had everything you wanted to see and more. You could tell who people were by their weapons and outfits, and since it's lore we know, it's a lot easier to follow. If you want an idea how much lore Warcraft actually has, check out the amount of books there are. For better or worse, they crammed a lot into this movie and it's really too bad it didn't do better, considering it's really quite a fun adventure.

What you may not realize is the Medivh is both villain and hero at the same time he was tainted by an evil force so its slowly taking him over he was the one that gave Guldan instruction to build the gate

Yeah, the play was to do 3 movies. This one covers WarCraft I. Then there is II and III. Movie 3 would be about the baby Go'El.

The story is rushed because they tried to be way to faithful to the original story. So they included ALL the important bits of this war that lasted for TWO years.

PS: World of Warcraft had a ACTIVE player base that was bigger then the total population of more then 100 countries at some point.

i agree that the movie falls a little short due to them compressing such a long story into such short format, and as some said here wich i agree with is that this would have been better as a series.
thoe for they did trow in alot of easter eggs for the ones here that have played the game wich was fun.
