Love how the song has such a deep meaning of the somber, melancholic story of a solider, describing something that was once so brutal (war, death), but at the same time, her song is so melodically beautiful, her vocals and the instrumentals are just ethereal and Inturn evokes the emotions of the intensity of the meaning. It practically juxtaposes perfectly with the meaning. There’s just such an amazing duality between the two that music can bring.

Listening to this song for years, always wondered what it was about.
One you can take the literal meaning someone killing someone. Living for ever with the guilt.
Two, a forbidden act was committed (sleeping with a married person) between two people and one of the persons has extreme guilt.
You can honestly look at it both way. To find out it was the literal meaning makes it even more sad.
