The advantage of still working is you have something to look forward to during payday and you basically not touching anything from your savings but after retirement everything you spend comes from your savings and this becomes very stressful. That is why every retiree needs a passive income and should not just rely on his monthly pension which is generally small or insufficient, especially here in the Phils.

Have been retired for 5 years currently in my 60's absolutely Happy/bored all depends on the day in saying that 3 close friends in their mid 60's in the last couple of years didn't get the opportunity to retire due to health issues.
My advice enjoy Life to the fullest whether working or retired.

The wife and I are both 62. She is not going to retire until she is 65 (she works from home), but i Semi-retired at 60. I had several businesses and taught Golf and Tennis for over 16 years, 6 days per week, so I find retirement extremely boring. Before that, I worked in Corporate America for 15 years. I have friends who actually sold everything and moved to other countries and love it. I am just buying time but did start a Non-profit to help others in the meantime. Good luck to all!

The average person doesn't retire in their 30's or 40's. A matter of fact, some begin their 1st careers in their 30's.
The earliest my peers retired was at 55.

Tell a Yahoo Yahoo boy, You have all this money and free time😅.

Now the truth comes out. You are tired of baby sitting and you have a wife. Your retirement will be different from a single man with No wife or little kids. I was wondering as you were speaking but towards the end i understood why you sound that way. Young retired and occupied with things you dont want to do.😢 Find something to do. Im retiring this year July with a Date and chosen the identity of an Advid Traveler and business owner of 3 physical location in 3 different industries.

I agree with your idea to do things now such as travel pick up a hobby while you are younger ,but this could also affect your retirement plans and lead to doing less if those experiences are already checked off your retirement bucket list.

To be honest I think it’s subjective, cause if you have a job that’s stressing you out and your so much years in already, your just doing it to get where you wanna be retiring would be your mind a lot but if it’s something you love maybe you should go all the way

I chose not to work at 57, if you are enjoying work - don’t stop. However if you wake up dreading the day ahead that is a slow death.
You have to be disciplined or you will end up broke!
An older wealthy friend told me when I was young “just because you have money doesn’t mean you don’t have money worries - you just have different money worries” took me a while to understand that and it is 100% correct. The other advice he gave me “just because you can do something doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do” so you have be disciplined, well most of the time :-) great video and advice! BTW in Spain don’t call it retirement they call it Jubilation! Enjoy your life whatever you choose!

The retirement fund in my country continues to pay every citizen annual dividends till the age of 100 and the average rate per yr since 2000 was 5.6% (it's much higher if I back date to 1985). Therefore i made it a point to ensure that my retirement nest egg has enough to benefit fr the yearly payout when I reach 55 so that I don't have to worry about expenses. But my top priority is staying healthy and keeping myself occupied with hobbies.

I retired at 47, and in a jiffy, I am 75 now. I remember initially after 3 months of retirement, like the man says, I did miss my secretary, my office, and my “power”. Without my secretary, I have to type my letters and find stamps for the envelopes ! That’s kind of irritating 😅 However, when I started developing new hobbies like golfing and dancing, time really flies…….

Keep in mind- If you retire early and have no earned income, you CANNOT contribute to a retirement account such as an IRA. Unless, of course, your spouse makes a "spousal contribution" on your behalf.

I have always said that retirement should be flexibility, because of what you just shared. When you step into the retirement/flex, you should have your house paid for and all fixed up with no major renos needed. and/or a nest egg established, so that investments can help with rent. We don't know what curve ball will be thrown at us. So we do need to enjoy life while we can and not necessarily wait to retirement. I think people find they are burning out when they get into their mid 50's and need to step back. Maybe finding a situation where you can work and take enough time to regenerate and enjoy life might help. Life is much more expensive now and we are living longer, so we might have to work part time.
