I'm captivated by the clarity and insight this content offers. A book with comparable insights was a significant milestone in my intellectual development. "Your Body Your Temple" by Various

Five minutes of her “amazing experience” but no real content or insights on her topic …then stopped watching.

I remember a brief moment when TEDX use to mean great and influential speakers with powerful ideas…

Think about that for a second. 💯

She's already right off the bat a beautiful woman by popular magazine standards. Hard to hear her preaching about beauty ideals when the supposed neutral and controlled variable is her face.

Flawless? What kind of flaw are you looking for? Try what is NOT beauty. Arent we distinguished by our differences? Why would anyone want to be judged by facial features alone? What a meaningless standard. No wonder you have no answer. Are you an individual or not? Of course we can reduce the issue to monetary value, as if that solves the issue.the real question is ' why should facial features be a measure of worth in ANY standard?

as beauty is perceived as: based on the signs of health, balanced proportions, symmetry, some extravagant extra forms (curved, big shining bright eyes, full defined lips, a straight and shapely nose, all in good arrangement) and this independent of national standards. The photo editors need to get their money's worth with editing pictures, that's what they get paid for. In order to show beauty, they didn't have to or shouldn't have changed anything in the picture. It showes beauty. The topic could be: this is an example, how people, who get payed for photoediting doing a beautiful picture worse only to show that they did they're job, to make sure to get payed. Ok. Thankyou for attention.

This was surprisingly unenlightening. She complained that people were taking the project and deciding what it meant without considering what she thought, but she herself didn't really know what it was about. Repeatedly asking questions is all well and good but eventually you have to start formulating some sort of answer.

@drewg4323

We actually have another reasonable answer (and one I'm quite surprised she never once mentioned)) for "what is beauty,?" which is symmetry. Clinical studies show people find symmetrical faces more attractive. We also find non-symmetrical faces less attractive. However keep in mind, symmetry doesn't mean perfectly straight and even, just symmetrical with itself; this is why some people have that "unique" beauty about them and some have a more "standard" beauty.

PS and I do mean 'another' answer, because Honig (the speaker) is completely right by saying it varies by person and culture...it's just there is some sort of standard we all seem to start with.

As a photo editor and graphic designer I feel offended by this works. Most of the people she commissioned clearly have no idea what they're doing. A professional knows there is not such a thing as a beauty standard and would never edit a photo based only on "make me beautiful" request. Besides, these photomanipulations are horrible. Let's not base our believes on some random, so-called photo editors, okay?

It’s obvious that different cultures and life experiences influence each and every subjective evaluation, including definition of beauty.
What’s interesting here is that she began an experiment which turned out to be meaningful in my opinion.
Typically the kind of talk I would share with teenagers or young adults who can struggle with « THE » definition of beauty, because, yeah, there is No one definition of beauty, but millions.
Thanks for this Ted Talk 👍

With this project she could've interviewed so many people "anthropologist" "plastic surgeons, etc and made it huge.

What is she trying to say? She talked a whole lot without saying much. I still don't understand what this talk was about? Yes, she talks about the project but then she keeps saying there was no point to it and then in the next sentence claims 'they completely missed my point?' She never clearly states the purpose of her experiment. We're left to guess it. She doesn't acknowledge that it's not some great or unique idea that sparked a conversation that hadn't existed before. She keeps talking about a project that she herself projects as shallow and meaningless. There was nothing about the fact that beauty is found in diverse faces, complexions and sizes. She doesn't even momentarily talk about it even though that should have consumed a significant part of her talk. This was a self promotion, feel good about my success talk, not a ted talk.
