Just ran into your video, and although I don't speak Italian or Sicilian, I understood 90% of the Italian version because I speak Spanish. I was completely lost when listening to the Sicilian version.

I’m a serb who loved your channel before starting to work for an italian company. Right now, i can say that i understand 80 percent and maybe able to speak arround 60 percent of an everyday italian language. Aaaand i was working with genti siciliani. Non posso capire un cazzo de cosa parlano

I’m half Italian from Germany and unfortunately didn’t learn Italian from my father. However, I can say that the intonation and flow of Sicilian sounds much more like my father’s and his family‘s Italian from Lecce than standard Italian. It sounded very familiar even though I didn’t understand a word.

I'm Portuguese. I understood your Italian well, almost as well as your English. In Sicilian, just some words, like rispondiò, picciotto and mangià (mancià?)

I speak few different languages & if I hear some foreign language, I can mostly recognize if not exactly what language it is, then at least I can tell from what language family is the language. Use to work in Germany & in one store, on register, two ladies were chatting, I had no clue what language it could be.
When I asked, they answered Sicilian. Interesting is, that I knew few Sicilian words, but really couldn’t tell in what language two ladies were chatting.
Been to Sicily, beautiful island, people, interesting culture, a lot of good memories.

As someone who only speaks Spanish and English, I understood some Italian words and a bit of the message but got nothing from Sicilian 😂

I can’t spell this. But I spent a couple months in Palermo and remember a rude saying I was taught. Again this is me trying to spell it how it sounds: Sooka ti en pruno. Can anyone figure out what I’m saying?

I have lived in Berlin for years, but I was born in Sardinia to Sicilian parents (father from Catania and mother from Ragusa), from whom I also learnt Sicilian. I recognised the typical Palermo accent and noticed some differences from the Catania dialect in some words, but I understood everything.
However, I would like to say that it would be nice if other themes were chosen to tell stories about Sicily, since the cinema already exports only an image of mafia and crime. Sicily is so much more and offers so many topics!!! Anyway, thank you for your work!

I am a spanish speaker and I understood everything in Italian, however when you spoke Sicillian I understood 0 :( haha ...I expected it to be hard, however not this hard/ different,..

The Sicilian sounds just like when you pretend you can speak Italian but you just making things up.😂
I speak a little Italian enough to understand but not one word of Sicilian was even close to anything I know.

I speak fluent Italian, along with native or native like Spanish, French and Portuguese, and, of course 100% of the Italian text, but very little of the Sicilian text. I guess speaking slow and doing some study beforehand like reading a phrase book a week in advance could probably change this drastically, but it was tough, and I couldn't even get the gist. Reading it should be a lot easier, but man, those that call it a dialect of Italian are just plain ignorant or have some political agenda.

I was born in Palermo and emigrated with my parents to Canada when I was nine. Although my parents were from different parts of Italy (Abbruzzese and Veneto) we spoke Italian/English at home. My grandmother, who was born in the Veneto region and moved to Sicily after marriage, learned to speak the true Sicilian and that's all I heard for my first 9 years. I am 75 years young and I can understand the "basic" Sicilian, and when I do I get this warm familiar feeling of being home. Never forgot my roots. 😢

I'm Greek, I read a little Latin and speak a little Italian. I understood almost everything you said in Italian but almost nothing in Sicilian. Probably because I didn't have the chance of hearing much of it yet.

I love Sicily! Cant wait to go back!

I speak Sicilian and Italian. My family was from the city of Messina. The messinese dialect is much softer and easier to understand by those from other areas.

I am a translator, and I've had to familiarise myself with Sicilian, but I have to admit, I did get some of the Sicilian, but not a lot. (I also speak Spanish, which usually helps, but I did not get the threats! :D

Interesting, the Palermo Sicilian has an almost Japanese intonation. I wonder if that is why Japanese came almost naturally to you. Great video. Shalom/Pace.

I’m English and with both the Sicilian and Italian version I got about 3 words! However, I have a friend who is from Catania and the flow of the Sicilian version was just him when he is cut up on the road!

My grandmother was from the Palermo area, and when she traveled to Rome she said that she couldn't understand a thing they were saying
