I truly want to know where people find those microPCs that cheap. Here in EU everytime I look it seems those old dell or lenovo things are worth their weight in gold.
ОтветитьThat was not thermal paste. It was yoghurt.
ОтветитьUSB-C power SUCKS !!! They screwed you
ОтветитьBastardous not to have
a heatsink.
Sorry but this is far too powerful for me !
Ответить"... But it looked more like snot than thermal paste, so i wiped it off and put on some of my own"
You used your snot in place of thermal paste?! Dude... 😛
I see you play guitar too.🥰❤️ We should jam.,jpk
ОтветитьLove the rk3588 but....opi5+ on ub23.04 stable~ rkpi5 dies after 54~ hours no matter which os it is. It does download to external m2 drive and then boots well on m2. eMMC shows but no write.: Still in infancy. No good assembler either though gambas and Kate do c well.🥰❤️😇👽,jpk do you have death after a few days too? Also I'm a bit colorblind and have trouble with blue-green flash. Opi5+ has red green which can be turned off. Very bright flash too....all night long....
ОтветитьBeen looking for fast alternatives to run klipper on
ОтветитьAnyway Jeff or anybody else can assist or help me find/understand how to install a vulkan 1.0-1.2 driver for the Orange Pi 5 which is very similar to any other Rk3588/rk3588s CPU, dual channel ram, GPU (Mali G610 MP4) and nvme - I managed to get x86 linux PC games running via steam but for proton to work I need vulkan and unless I'm missing something - I need support for GPU drivers for vulkan - I'm told it exists on android, and I understand Linux and Android are not the same thing... but like come on. Give me driver Orange Pi!
ОтветитьI also hate the move to discord for forums. They will be useless in no-time and won't provide you a fix like the 2020 link you referenced earlier in the video. We will lose a lot of valuable information that is now trapped in discord servers.
ОтветитьThe only upside of the Rock5 vs a 2nd hand mini pc is that it's very efficient.
I bought a Dell OptiPlex 5060 Micro (i5-8500t, 32GB en 256GB NVMe SSD) 11 Pro for 240 euros.
That is nearly the same price of the rock5 b with case and required stuff.
But it has double the performance, although it uses more power.
at full performance it will use 90w
y Pi
ОтветитьCan the Rock 5 run Raspberry Pi GPIO PWM servo examples? Most RPi-spinoffs do not run the GPIO examples turn-key. That's why hobby projects are EZ on the RPIs. 😎Thanks.
Ответитьthe getting started literally said (optional) ...
ОтветитьI'll give it to Radxa that they're still around and seem to be getting better, but I'd avoid them. I had 4 of their boards 5-6 years ago and the company is a bit of a mess. They're continuously trying to get their patches into the upstream kernel, but things are always getting rejected due to low quality. That means you're beholden to them to keep those OS images going and up to date. Not the place you want to be. Good luck running the latest OS and kernel.
ОтветитьNot cheap and so much effort
ОтветитьI love how the whole point of the Raspberry Pi has been lost. You are just building mini form factor computers now. What is the point? You have a very gimped computer or basically the insides of a gaming console.
ОтветитьThis is way faster than my i5 3rd gen 😂
ОтветитьCan you use display capture for the pi or just buy a second one and use that for hdmi in
ОтветитьYES! I hate Discord forums for tech support. Yes for specific issues that need immediate help they are great but for general questions and support!
ОтветитьUSB is an unreliable way to deliver power. How about a standard barrel connector?
ОтветитьGeff, you've made lots of videos about plugging GPUs into SBCs but how about more content focused on the actual onboard GPUs on these mini computers and what they are / aren't capable of. Outside of the world of IOTs, I think quite a lot of people use mini computers for kiosk type devices, art & performance projects etc. I've been playing around with various SBCs I have comparing their GPU performance and doing simple tests (heck, just 1080 video playback for example) and the results are fascinating. Many of the more powerful current boards are slower than a Raspberry Pi 3b+ at playing back video in my experience. This is especially true with video players that run over the CLI like VLC, which must bet he most advanced and worked on video player project available for the linux platform. Please do a video on this topic!
ОтветитьWay bigger than raspberry pi too why not buy a second hand small pc or use a laptop motherbord ? Might save some cash in this recession like economy
Ответитьthis completely and utterly put me off even considering this board. Great specs, absolutely atrocious for user friendliness. If I want to buy problems from new I'll get a Land Rover.
ОтветитьForeword: Create a product like this, and the Video community will shower you with eternal admiration!
Backstory: My desire is to use my Sony VX-1000 Camcorder without relying on tapes. The most straightforward approach would be to connect a Sony HVR-MRC1 memory recorder to the camera's Firewire OUT port. Regrettably, these recorders have been out of production for over two decades. Although they can still be found, I am reluctant to spend $400 on outdated technology. This led me to explore alternative options, but it appears that no modern memory recorder with a Firewire port is available anymore.
Consequently, I thought about building my own solution, but I lack the knowledge in electronics, programming, and coding required to do so. The only viable option is to assemble a makeshift solution using existing hardware. During my search, I discovered SCB's (Single-Board Computers). While they don't come with a Firewire port, they can be customized by adding one. My plan would involve installing Windows 7 on the SCB and connecting a mouse, keyboard, and screen to it. Then, I would run an application like WinDV to record the incoming Firewire stream.
Clearly, this setup is far from ideal, as it necessitates carrying around a lot of additional equipment. It hardly compares to the convenience of simply purchasing an HVR-MRC1. However, I remain hopeful that someone reading this might come up with an ingenious solution. Perhaps, by writing a script or firmware, the SCB could be made to operate without the need for Windows 7 and the accompanying hardware. I am not well-versed in this area, but I'm curious if such an approach could be viable.
Thanks.
P.s. Do you mind if I post this in other videos of yours so as many people as possible can see this? Maybe someone can help me out? : )
kxe kxe...kxe
ОтветитьIt can be stupidly faster. But if it does not have community support will never worth anything... lots of raspberry pies clones with allwinner tech chips that is not supported anymore. But you still can find rpi1 support.
ОтветитьIn PC world and "related" ... the "power" you want is proportional to your incompetence and ignorance... high ignorance request high power computers...
ОтветитьWhy those pussy users are complaining about dev boards? Go and buy and apple pro to navigate internet and answer mails, and let technical people with this kind of boards!!!!
ОтветитьГела у вас логика сломалась, надо менять.
Ответитьoh times have changed since...
Ответитьthis CPU has chromebook performance. Halfway between a Pi and a Desktop / Laptop processor.
ОтветитьI use the Rock 5b as a development pc and I'm mostly happy with it. Had no problems flashing the ssd, first boot went smooth, flashing SPI as documented went with no problems... I dont think I am an advanced linux geek but surely the board does what was promised. The GUI Problems where due to an alpha driver, and are fixed now. I used Armbian in the mean time with no hardware acceleration.
I still use my rasPi4 with 4GB as my PiHole and other server stuff, and I got my Windows Workstation with 1500W for Gaming and other stuff, but I really enjoy to do my programming stuff on the Rock 5b. Combined with a 4k monitor and 2TB SSD it really ROCKs :D
So where is the 40 pin GPIO header on the board? Can I really use it like the Pi 4 to use with project kits?
Ответитьneed a throw-back to the RPi 3, that you can get today.
what great features can you get for the old Pi-3 price ?
As always Jeff, I very much appreciate how thurough your reviews are. It's been 4 months since you posted this and I'm testing out an Orange Pi 5B, which I believe has some of the updates you mentioned when comparing with the radxa. Most notably the upgrade to the Rockchip RK3588S.
Technology.... isn't it great! :)
Also thought I would mention, I do have a Khadas Edge 2 (I bought in to the marketing hype) and I had problems with it rebooting constantly. I'm super glad you pointed out the power supply issues with usb power as that seems to be exactly the problem with that device. I may test it out further once I have a proper power supply.
Agree with discord. Knowledge that doesn’t expire cannot be on discord.
ОтветитьBut less tasty.
ОтветитьRadxa is a horrible company, who does no software support, no community, and dumps a product moments after releasing it and selling their initial order.
ОтветитьIt's bigger, more powerful but way more expensive 😅 the Pi is superior in many ways.
ОтветитьWould this be a good HTPC device for running KODI?
ОтветитьYou're right about discord
ОтветитьLots of specs, and lots of benchmarks. But is there anything useful or fun it can do? is there any software library. Basically that is more important than the specs and benchmarks of an SBC.
ОтветитьForums should ban discord, period. Answered a question with "join me on discord"? Censor it.
ОтветитьWould be great if u can make a video when it's able to take Wifi 6E cards, I can not use a mini Intel PC for a 24/7 server device as something that draws 50watts max ends up costing over $10 per month in electricity where I live☹. It has to be lower powered ARM based or it's just not going to be justifiable.😐
ОтветитьComparing this SBC to mini x86-based machine seems wrong. Even when put together Thinkcentre is much bigger in size, not to mention a lot more power hungry.
Other than that, RPI linux kernel support is also a mess. They haven't be able to implement proper 3D driver for VC chip so far, even tho it's release many years ago while this board is quite new.
I really like the form factor they went with for the rock5, all connectors on one edge. Its one of the things that annoys me about the raspberry pi form factor
