With all due respect I think he is an excellent pianist but I don't like his Bach at all. His vision is very orthodox and unmusical, he makes a good counterpoint, but the musical phrases have no direction, If he is so orthodox, why does he play the harpsichord and not the piano? I sure would do well. Angela Hewitt is my goddess for bach, she has everything, including a bit of rubato very well cared for in her phrases so well constructed musically speaking.

I like Schiff's interpretation much more than Gould's - warmer, more personal in my opinion

Comparing Schiff and gould's playing made me wonder whether they are were playing different variations! Diffference is very marked in variation 26

Of course, Gould is the worst... Schiff is better than Gould.

Too staccato... "Bach bach Bach"; it sounds like chickens pecking on the keyboard... The "canon" parts are ill and unpleasant, and the arabesques are contorted into ugly versions of themselves... Vwadiswav Richter is better.

I love to hear him play schubert aswell and his playing of bach is always so lyrical without being too romantic. I love the very slight rubato in places just to give it that humanity. There's something so human about his playing. Never seems to blast you with sound but invites you to join him in his world. He described schubert in those terms and I would describe him in the same warm light. I'll never forget the documentary he did on schubert which I watched and watched he was such a joy to hear speak aswell as play. Also I agree with virtually everything he said. A very insightful man.

For some reason, few pianists make the aria move like a dance like Sir Schiff does. It’s so refreshing

Every day pass I'm more grateful to be born after Bach wrote this meravelous music. And grateful to be able to hear it every day. Bach music satisfies me at the emotional and intelectual level.

I always respect Andras Schiff and his way to perform Bach. No doubt about that! The most interesting performance of the genius and his "Goldberg-Variationen" is played by Mrs. Beatrice Rana from Italy! That's the very best available recording after Glenn Gould!
