The mines I go to are some of the richest in the world. Upwards of 27,000 ouces of almost pure silver to the ton.

Would it make sense to get a 500 gallon propane tank and hook up a permanent system for running your furnace? What is the cost per lb difference?

Love your videos. I do worry about you guys breathing in all that mineral dust. I know a respirator would kill the entertainment value of your narration, but what is that doing for your lungs...? Stay safe and may the precious metal gods smile on you!

silver is not like led,you should pour it in one swoop not slowly like when you pour aluminum or led.

I googled Galena and read : Galena is toxic to inhale or injest. However you can handle the mineral safely if there is no lead dust present. It also said: if you were a mineral collector small amounts of Galena are okay if you store it in a case. Now I just watched you go down hundreds of feet surrounded by this stuff and enough lead dust to choke a horse and no breathing apporatice was used. Whats up with that ? What should I believe,? Really curious.. great show enjoyed every minute. Thanks.

Zinc fumes very dangerous too as every welder knows about welding galvanized metal !

Next time, let the temperature get closer to the melting point of lead before skimming the zinc. You can always reheat the lead after skimming.

After the second melt -keep it hot longer, you had a lot of zinc left in the silver. It will make the cupel step go more quickly.

When using a cupel, isn't it standard practice to have the door open a bit and place the cupel(s) near the front door so you get oxygen into the oven to speed oxidation of the base metals?

I would love to see a keel made from the lead. I know it outs the least valuable mineral compared to the silver, but as a sailor and boat builder, I’d take the lead over the silver any day!

I mean, if you have to then maybe but given the choice, nah. Mining is NOT for me. Even just watching this my chest is pounding and my skin itches. I admire and respect anyone who could do this with just ropes and a prayer. For want of a better word on this channel, flipping, scary as flip...thanks for the fear.

Amazing you never find a metal pyramid lying around in the ground from the old days. One thing no smelter has ever left behind is a pyramid of precious metals.

Remembering the legendary ship that was hauling a load of silver across owens lake for shipment to LA capsised. The silver bars were never recovered. In mid 1980s someone got a permit to fly over the lake in a helicopter with metal defecting equipment looking to find the spot where the ship went down. To this day I don't know if he was successful. Interesting.
