Hi, thanks for your video. I have Canon RP at the moment with 50mm and 24-240mm lens. If I would like to buy another camera for wedding shooting which one should I get now?

Would this over heat recoding like let’s say a mass ceremony? Because i know for like photo shoots or the venue your not recording the entire run time

Quick question for you, Matt. I was thinking it might be important to have one A camera that is at the back of the venue that just records the whole ceremony...ideally unmanned. So, that means it would need foolproof (as much as possible) autofocus and unlimited recording. I have two Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras (Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and Panasonic Lumix G85) that would make sense on the sides, but I was thinking I would want a camcorder for this task.

My E-M1 Mark II unfortunately has a 30-minute recording limit and a questionable preamp, and my G85 can't be trusted for autofocus...not to mention the lack of a headphone jack.

A) How important is it in your experience to have a camera doing that...recording the whole ceremony uninterrupted?
B) If it is important, do you have any recommendations for budget camcorders to run unmanned?

C) Would it make more sense to get an external video recorder like a Ninja Inferno to make up for the shortcomings of my E-M1? I say Ninja Inferno over Ninja V because the Inferno has XLR inputs, and I can't output ProRes RAW anyway.

Hey Matt! Could you make an updated video to this now in 2023? In the past few years ith the FX3/FX30, tons of other good mirrorless cameras, audio equipment, lighting and more thats been released since this, an update would be great.

Eye Lens Wedding Videography
Eye Lens Wedding Videography - 04.07.2022 20:07

Hey Matt, Great job on this video, however this video is 2 years old I think it's time to go ahead and update this video because there are plenty of budget alternatives to a lot of the gear that you mention or at least some of the gear. Like for instance as far as sound goes there are other alternatives to the Tascam they are still really good sounding like the Sony TX660 Sony has upgraded that voice recorder to where the sound is actually pretty good and also makes a fantastic reception mic and it is also a really good mic to use in an emergency because there are times when something's going to happen or you might forget to mic somebody up, there has been times that mic saved me.
As for the lenses I agree that the sigma 16 mm is a great wide angle lens and I've actually seen people use only the 16 mm lens for the entire wedding although I don't recommend it but the wedding still came out looking good and I agree the Sony 35 mm is still a awesome choice don't know much about the sigma 30mm but I imagine that one is a good one as well for medium focal length.
As far as the zoom I disagree with the 70 to 200. I will say that a better option would be the 24 to 70 to walk around with. as far as the 70 to 200 I would put that on a tripod. But Tamron came out with the 35-150 f2-2.8 I think that would be a better option than the 24 to 70 or 70 to 200. And then there's also the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8. for a cheaper option. As far as lighting goes I would say the yn216 are great lights to start out with $70. Because I noticed you didn't talk about lighting. When I first started out I had that light and I used it for a bunch of weddings although they're not very good when you have huge big Ballroom receptions but they will do and they are better than nothing. I hope you don't take offense to this but I thought it would be a good video idea for you.

Suggestion about long telephoto zoom. In my country there are still lenses Sony DT 55-200 f4-f5,6 for 150 USD. They are small an A mount.)))

Do you think autofocus or overall image quality is more important for wedding filmmaking? I'm considering a Panasonic S5 or something like a Canon 90d or Sony ZVE10. I'm just wondering what features are most important as a wedding filmmaker.

Hey, great video... Thank you for the review... I am looking to buy a video camera for wedding videography/photography. Would you recomend this? considering wedding can be full day events. Some cameras tend to overheat mid shoot. lol.
Thanks again...

Is there some reason you didn't recommend the Sony a6500, which has IBIS? I just wondered if it had a downside to video recording that you didn't mention it as an alternative? I have a couple of them and use them for backups - they seem to do a good job and were less expensive - and, of course, the IBIS.

Thanks your videos helped me with my first shoot, seeing how you interact with the couples and everyone is nice. I have an a7 iii, a sigma art 35mm 1.4, a monopod, and a maxed out credit card haha. I had to borrow a variable ND filter and that tascam mic but it worked pretty well. A gimbal and some more lenses would be great of course but I should probably actually profit first lol

If you get the Canon lens and a SIGMA adapter, you can get autofocus for photography! It WILL NOT work for video (it hunts all day and never finds anything for supper), but it is nice if you do photography and the AF for photos is plenty good.
That adapter is $250 though, so you are paying for that AF.
