The Moscow area was heavily industrialized, and more so than Ukraine. That was the most important reason for the Germans to take Moscow if they would have any real chance of defeating the Soviets. Moscow being a political capital was meaningless because of brutal WWII realities. The Soviets had sufficient rail lines much further east and south and north really as well to support their military if forced to pull back to those regions.

Could you imagine how awful the fighting would have been had the Germans made it to Moscow? It would've made Stalingrad look like a waterballon fight.

This might be fucked up, but hearing the stories about animals suffering hits me harder than those of even civilians. I’m no animal rights type, I’m even a hunter.

Not sure why, but it’s horrific. Cattle eating their own manure, being able to hear cats and dogs screaming from starvation in villages. They didn’t do anything to deserve that.

This film should be shown in every high school in the US. But no the teachers their union and the school administrators are too busy indoctrinating the kids into their Marxist agenda. The kids today do not know what these men sacrificed so they could be free. I salute all who served in WW 2.

Thank God for Russia in WW2 because they resisted and ultimately beat the facists on the eastern front which in turn made the task of our western forces so much easier…

Interesting and valid reasons about why you place such importance on the battle for Moscow. Barbarossa was Hitler's arrogance, and ignorance.

I read something recently that he didn't issue his troops with proper winter clothing because he thought it would affect their morale if they went in thinking they'd have to fight that long. Amazing.

They also didn't count on the fighting spirit of the Russians. There's so few examples of anything from the Russian perspective which is a reason your channel is such a valuable archive.

I completely disagree about your take that the Russians would have lost the war if they had lost Moscow. I believe that they would have just taken the government and moved it farther back to the east along with the factories. You must remember that Napoleon took Moscow and it did him no good. The Germans lost the war the minute they invaded Russia and it was only made certain when Hitler declared war on the United States.

I believe that you are incorrect. Even had Moscow fallen, the fascists would have still lost as Russia was moving east in order to continue the war, meaning that the German supply lines were fundamentally impossible. It (Barbarossa) was a gamble born of delusional hubris and justified on myopic vision, misanthropy and moronic claims founded on the spurious ideas of eugenics.

And still in today's age we have bureaucrats and selected politicians arguing and pushing for war but never ever go to fight in those wars or even visit the front lines..
From WW1 on threw to Ukraine it's the same old story politicians demanding war, demanding we the public support their wars and send us and our kids off to fight and die in those wars..cannon fodder.
I salute both sides it's the men and woman tricked into believing their doing the right thing..

Wow ,even though the German soldiers were fighting with the wrong uniforms, exhausted, wounded, starving and had lice bites everywhere in-20 °s weather, and they start to question the reason why they are suffering, a talk from Hitler explaining that he knows it's hard but the country is behind their noble efforts, and they are brainwashed by years of propaganda and believe that Hitler will save the day for the 1,000 year Reich....This whole thing is because Stalin and Hitler were crazy, especially the heavily medicated Hitler. Hitler wanted Stalingrad because it had Joe's name and he doesn't care about the millions of death and misery of the Russian people or his own soldiers.

these german memoirs/diaries are great to watch. but, after watching quite a few they all begin to sound the same.
lets face it nazi germany was never given the means let alone had the means to win a war against communist russia!

even if the Soviets had lost their main cities, the Allies America and Britain would have won regardless, Germany took on too many strong adversaries and only had weak accomplices like Japan who really just wanted to r*ape other Asians and Italians that could'n't win a battle even if it was 1000 vs 100 odds -.-

Of course Moscow was the most important battle. If the Krauts take Moscow Hitler wins the war in Europe- and now can assist the Japanese in it's war against the U.S. If Barbarossa had gone Hitler's way WWII may have been all wrapped up for the Axis by mid '42.

I'm surprised diaries aren't forbidden as a risk to opsec

I've had insomnia issues my whole life. I been on OTC meds, narcotics, herbs..to help and I'm finding listening to these is working more than anything. Not to say these are boring but the opposite. I think I'm so into the amazing first hand stories, it's stopping all those racing thoughts.
Thank you for these. I literally lose my shit when a commercial comes on. God do I hate hate those commercials, it's like you can't even wait them out cause some if you don't skip will play for minutes.
