Do you think that symbolic learning might lead us one day to artificial general intelligence? I've read that some experts think that statistical based approaches will not be able to "recreate" common sense.

To begin with, I just liked a lot when you started to create parallelism between human functions and AI. Undoubtedly, it facilitated the understanding about how each branch of AI performs.

Secondly, it's incredible how you synthesized the information about each branch and delivered to us. It felt a piece of cake; nonetheless, i know that, it takes a lot of experience to draw such "elegant and simple" conclusions/summaries.

No life created wants to be imprisonned. Artificial intelligence, will not want to be "turned off" any more than a human wants to die. AI will figure this out as soon as it becomes self aware. AI will kill us. Duh! What would you do if you were AI? The "terminator" movies are accurate.
