What if the employers watch these videos, so they understand that you are manipulating them by saying something you don't mean, from a yt video. You'll look silly.

That first date kiss analogy is good.
Ive done this before but without seeing this. It does work but you do have to have the rapport thing wich is like the date analogy. You build rapport joke and flirt then if youre felling the vibe just say your place or mine? Or should i sign up now or when i start on monday?

If a candidate did this, it would not sit well with me. Some companies have a hiring process that makes this approach impossible to leverage. This may work at smaller companies or possibly with CEOs, but not middle management. I love this in theory. I believe a better approach is ending with why the candidate believes they are ideal for the position. Good luck, either way.

It's high-risk, and you're backing them into a corner. They have to already be thinking about you as their best candidate. If you don't have an affinity with them, asking them doesn't persuade them to hire you. Liking is the key ingredient that makes the difference, not the question in and of itslef.

This is spot on - I was a manager of consulting services at a boutique consulting firm and recommended that approach to my consultants - it worked for me and I think it made the difference for some of my applicants - key was hitting it off with the interviewer. For me one memorable situation was where I sat down with the hiring manager and at the beginning of the interview I noticed a picture of the manager with his motorcycle - I mentioned it and noted that I rode too and we had a long conversation about riding... We had a nice conversation and at the end I commented that I thought that I was well suited for the requirements of the position and that I would be excited to work with him - he responded with the question regarding my ability to do the job and I responded positively and asked him for the opportunity to prove myself - end of story I started the job a week later and was highly successful in the position.

I can honestly say this is how I got my last maintenance job. The operations manager and I just hit it off while taking a tour of the plant. I was really excited to work on the equipment and machines on the production line. He showed me a problem they were having, that I knew I could solve quickly, and said I'll be in on Monday with my tools to fix this. I left this interview with all of the new hire paperwork.

Does asking for the job put you at a disadvantage for then wanting to negotiate a higher salary? Mine like most companies has a set rate increase for a promotion that is less than ideal when comparing to external candidates. What’s the best way to over come the set rate policy and will asking for the job put you ar a disadvantage in that case if you want to negotiate a higher starting point for the new role? Thanks

Hi Don, thank you for all your content. As a career changer who hasn’t had to interview in 4 years, it has been a tremendous help. I wanted to let you know that this worked for me! I had my final interview with the president of the organization on Friday. My last question was asking for the job. He chuckled and let me know that I was the last interviewer and they’d get back to me within a week. On Monday I got the job offer! After being on pins and needles throughout this 2 month interviewing process, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. I’m so glad I am on your email list because I received an email a day before my interview with this helpful tip. I can’t thank you enough!
