Hope the nuclear fusion folks are talking to the breakthrough Superconducting folks at the UofR who announced “room temperature & almost normal pressure superconducting”! Breakthrough can lead to the commercial viability of superconducting electric magnets that are small and efficient and 0 resistance transmission of electricity! Think about it!

Come to think of it, My inventions could be the effective ways to solve the world's energy crisis at one go. That's why my inventions can amplify the torque of the primemover
Such as a Disel engine, a gasoline engine,a electrical
motor, a thermal power plant and a nuclear power  plant about by1.5-2 times. 
For example, 1,000 kw -->1,500-2,000kw. I think these inventions may be a
real perpetual motion machine.

They can also be used as  a power plant with ESS for a micro grid.

It's just around the corner. And always will be.

Interesting framing and timing of the fusion breakthrough. The announcement revolved around national security and defense. If I didn't know any better, I'd say this is a release of technology by the MIC, not a discovery. The mainstream media is trying to frame this as if the US is altruistically “investing in fusion technology” for the sake of our climate & clean energy as such.

Am I the only one who realizes how scary and f$&ked up NNSA Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs Dr. Marvin “Marv” Adams framing of this announcement is? Marv said: “More immediately, this achievement will advance our national security in at least three ways. First, it will lead to laboratory experiments that help NNSA defense programs continue to maintain confidence in our deterrent without nuclear explosive testing. Second, it underpins the credibility of our deterrent by demonstrating world leading expertise in weapons relevant technologies. That is, we know what we’re doing. Third, continuing to assure our allies that we know what we’re doing and continuing to avoid testing will advance our non-proliferation goals, also increasing our national security.”

It's one further step to a pure fission weapon. A pure fusion weapon is a hypothetical hydrogen bomb design that does not need a fission "primary" explosive to ignite the fusion of deuterium and tritium, two heavy isotopes of hydrogen used in fission-fusion thermonuclear weapons. Such a weapon would require no fissile material and would therefore be much easier to develop in secret than existing weapons. Separating weapons-grade uranium (U-235) or breeding plutonium (Pu-239) requires a substantial and difficult-to-conceal industrial investment, and blocking the sale and transfer of the needed machinery has been the primary mechanism to control nuclear proliferation to date.

In other words, rather than leading the world in developing peaceful fusion technology for the benefit of humanity, we’re going to build the next generation of nuclear weapons. We’ll continue to use your tax dollars to make the world less safe for everybody and dominate the planet through the threat or use of force. What’s more, not a single American is allowed to vote on how we continually use your tax dollars for militarism rather than healthcare, infrastructure, clean energy, etc.. Congratulations………………..

The good news is there IS time because "Climate Change" formerly known as "Global Warming" is BS science. And since we have about 200-300 years of oil left we could be OK if these fusion technologies can be scaled up within a few decades. This is GOOD NEWS people!

So, when they are able to sustain long term fusion, how are they able to keep the man made star from going nova and destroying a good chunk of society?

They are “lying”. This same announcement was made Feb 12, 2014 Nature “Laser fusion experiment extracts net energy from fuel”. And what they don’t say is that they had to put 16(?)x more energy into the system than was produced.

And there's more to think about. So we get energy from fusion. That energy is heat. So we need to turn heat into other forms of energy, like electricity.

We get lots of heat, and maybe we don't need all the electricity that comes from that right now - maybe tonight, tomorrow, or something. So where do we store excess energy? In what form? Batteries? In converting energy, we lose some of it (inefficiencies); in storing it, we lose more. Either that energy is used up, or it is dispersed as heat. How much? Well, think of global warming; it doesn't help, however small. Making batteries consumes resources, and manufacture is never entirely clean in the environment. How much "not clean" is problematic for global warming?

This is a great breakthrough! There are yet more challenges ahead. No single discovery is a panacea.
