The Ring (2002) Theatrical Trailer

This trailer really leaves plenty of room for imagination. All I got from that is a series of hectic scenes, a women and her son in front of a video of a creapy girl, and "seeing the ring" (paraphrasing). This movie is a complete mystery when viewing it just from the trailer.

Just watched this movie it is one of the best horror and mysterious movie which doesn't include much jump scarers but will still scare you by its mystery and definitely Worth Watching

Watched this in the theatre when I was 12 back in 2002 with some cousins. It scared the hell out of everyone in the theatre including myself. One of the most effective suspense and horror films I've ever experienced.

Basically a demon crawls out your tv if you watch a cursed tape!!!

You really had to grow up before the pervasiveness of the internet, cell phones and especially social media to really understand what made this movie effective.
Me and a bunch of high school friends rented the vhs when it came out and watched it not knowing anything about it (which was actually possible back in 2003) and it’s still one of my favorite movies to this day.

Maybe it’s just me, but I think when Rachel yells “Somebody help!”, her accent shows. Lol

The Best remake of an Asian Horror Film. Still love it to this day.

Listen…. This movie was scary as shizz during VHS days. Especially because of a marketing campaign where they put that blank tape in places for curious ppl to pick up and watch 🤣

Love how they find these old buildings they use. Also that shot of the well from above with the shadows running across the frame !!! Holy cinematography!!!

This is the only movie to give me nightmares and I've had many.

In 2002 this was scary. Buuuuut I was 13. 20 years later it doesn't cut it as a genuinely scary movie. It's kinda dull. Good for its time but kind of lackluster now.

I didn't know this was a remake for so long of the Japanese flick Ring-u playing into the fears of emerging technologies , it was a trailblazer of grungy horror as well as ghost stories
This was an interesting turn for director Gore Verbinski as he usually does blockbuster epics and screenwriter Ehren Kruger
My first introduction to Naomi Watts and Brian Cox
I forgot how moody and atmospheric the score is and the almost absence of color to fit the empty visual aesthetic
Great attention paid to characters as well as mood unlike other Japanese horror remakes that were only cash grabs sacrificing the cultural relevance
This movie works because the same fears of around new technology were felt in the western part of the world
Great original idea of a cursed videotape that kills you after watching it in 7 days presented in the tradition of an urban legend
The ending is actually the most intense scene and a terrifying twist given everything we've learned about Samara and her death
Nostalgia Critic thought the film was ok but the surprise ending really stuck the landing
It's got great stuff in it even though it has dull moments and things that don't make sense
He also agrees there's something very retro about the terror being on a vhs tape with its black and white appearance and unsettling editing
They made 2 sequels but they were just plain bad since they couldn't deliver the same genuine frights as before
