As an Americano learning my 4th language this is incredible to see. Spanish, German, English now (not gonna lie) Mandarin and Russian. Two very challenging languages for their vast differences in characters amd vowel/enunciations when compared to European/Arabic text.

I speak Chinese and Japanese, so I know there is a huge difference.

Korean/Japanese are entirely different from Chinese and unrelated, except for the loan words that they borrowed. Considering that considerable amount of English vocabulary now constitutes the daily vernacular language in Korea, loan words don’t mean anything in terms of relatedness. Few people know this, but Korean and Chinese are farther apart grammatically and phonetically than Chinese and French.

In Taiwan we write 週末 and 公園，same as the Japanese! Because we use traditional characters! Taiwan, being the same as Japan, that traditional cultures are part of our daily lives.
The simplified characters used by mainland China is considered as crippled characters 殘體字 and is not a good representation of the real Chinese characters that are used in Taiwan.

chinese is like latin of asia. some/many words are similar. but can they understand each other? NOPE. totally different languages. especially korean is something totally different.

most of the Eastern Aisian coutries languages are just like different dialects, since most were based on Chinese charactors but pronounced differentely.

A lot of people here don't seem to understand the differences between languages and words. Korean and Japanese are similar language but Chinese is not. However, Both Korean and Japanese borrowed a lot of Chinese words and expressions. One very interesting thing is that Mongolians are the best Korean speakers for some reason. Japanese can speak Korean very well in general too but they have thick Japanese accent, so unlike Mogolians I can immediately spot Japanese even though they have lived in Korea for long time.

画画 is like 絵を描く, the first 画 is verb like 描く, the second 画 is the noun like 絵. Another way to say it in Chinese is 絵画, but unlike Japanese 絵 is the verb.

I always imagined that Chinese, Japanese, and Korean were about as similar as Latin, Spanish/french and English. They share some common words with slightly different pronunciation then ,they have new words they needed to create. (Chinese is the Latin in this scenario.) Spanish/french are more similar to Latin than English but they all share that common root. I figured likewise, Japanese and Korean share similarities with Chinese being the root with Japanese being a little closer to Chinese.

私は日本人ですが、韓国に行くと中国語の漢字表記がハングル語より分かりやすいです。

The Chinese pronunciation that Niki is speaking is Mandarin. Mandarin is modernized Chinese and it sounds different from the ancient Chinese which Korean and Japanese borrow the words from. The ancient Chinese sound more like Cantonese.
Fun fact: During the Meiji period, the Japanese brought Western knowledge to Asia. They translated many of these modern Western concepts into kanji and it became the words we use today in modern Chinese. For example: 社會(society), 哲學(philosophy).
