I think Ripley in Aliens is a prime example of what a strong female lead should be. Ripley relies on her motherly instincts, her wits, and skills which are all things women can use to hold power over a traditional strength of men. I also think the same about Lara Croft but mostly from the video games as im not too familiar enough with the movies.

For a lot of these, studios dont care about actually discussing issues a woman might face and just want to cash in with the defense that "youre just misogynistic".
That, or maybe theres some good intention behind the screen, but they focus so much on writing a "strong woman" character, they forget to write an actual character.

Its not just women either, it happens everywhere, bad women characters are just more out there because studios will try and parade their righteousness. Take Netflix's recent live action Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation as an example: they didnt think they could have their protagonists fall short or do anything objectively wrong because they had to be the good guys, so they cut a lot of things like Aang's immaturity and Sokka's narcissism (which im seeing as including his sexism). As a result, however, they didnt face any personal challenges, or get a chance to learn and grow
