G'day Everyone, I deliberately didn't address the "cost" of hens and equipment because it's like adding the cost of your fridge or oven onto the food bill - it's a silly technical argument - plus keeping chickens has more benefits than just $$. Thanks for your continued support! Cheers :)

I love my chooks, we have no food waste even the neighbours come over with their food scraps and empty egg cartons. I give away most of my eggs to family friends and neigbours so everyone is happy :) I have 11 hens ATM and am happy to turn retiree's into chicken soup.

Had chickens all my life living in the village. And roosters too. They are amazing indeed i can't imagine a life without them. Those kids on the internet saying all this crap should not be allowed to use a keyboard for 1 year as punishment.

It depends on the type of chicken. As chickens like. Your bantam eat mice. And rats as part of there. Protein regiments. And pests such as. Locusts prone to killing crops. And how u maintain them an time to do so. Most don't have the time. Or patients to tend to birds.

I think these articles are more aimed at the sort of young person who gets their first house with a partner or a bunch of friends and thinks "You know what we need? A dog!" when they really didn't need a dog. Except, you know, with chickens. No one has time to take care of the animals, once the newness wears off it's just another chore. People do things impulsively without much research. The new idiots next door, 6 college freshman, just went out and got themselves a puppy last week, and they're already leaving the poor thing alone in the backyard all day.

We had some sort of a bird flu here in South Africa 🇿🇦 and our electricity shortage made the situation worse as most commercial egg producers had their chicken dying of heat stroke causing the eggs price shooting up.

Hi! I like your video's! Very amusing. ;-) I'm a Belgian and it's true that chickens were used to reduce our waist! These animals are a dream to have. These animals are a gift to have. They reduce our waste bin and give us a tasty egg in return.

Another point about keeping chickens that no longer lay
It significantly dilutes your losses when a predator does get a chicken.

First of all, the simple math... if a hawk gets on of your hens and you only have laying hens... they definitely got a laying hen, right. If half your hens don't lay, then that's a 50% shot that not only does the hawk not steal a hen... but you still see where your chickens are vulnerable and can adjust your setup for the safety of the rest of your hens essentially for free (so to speak).

Second of all, take the simple math and add in the factor that predators are going to target the older slower hens, and that the younger faster hens are far more likely to get away safe... and in reality, if half your chickens no longer lay, it's actually more like 90% odds that an older hen will succumb to predators in place of a laying hen.

our chickens actualy do come and cuddle on the couch with us. some of them sleep in the house, and the rooster is also no stranger to the front seat of the car and loves taking trips with us. Chickens are by no means just food or fertilizer, they are absolutely wonderful animals and very clever pets.

Never had a moment where it seemed like there was any shortage on eggs. Supermarkets are always stocked up to the brim with eggs, always have been. They are slightly more expnesive, just like everything. You are exploiting fear by claiming there is (or was) a worldwide crises.
