This Melody Trick will Change your Songwriting

It's always a plus if you can hit a note not in the chord or scale of the song and make it work.

Extremely informative! I like that you provide examples too. It makes me analyze a bunch of other songs now just to see if I can identify the "tricks". Thank you for this content!

This also applies for instrumentation! A good song is full of non chord notes and their resolution. And really, thats one of the biggest hurdles for beginners singing and composing only on the chord notes

love your stuff man! have been a fan ever since you started your channel. i have a request though. i know rap isn't your preferred genre to study but, could you get into some techniques or patterns you notice in some popular and critically acclaimed records like "To Pimp a Butterfly" by Kendrick Lamar? i've been trying to do that myself and i'd love to see what you think?

I feel like Chino Moreno in his work with the Deftones, it's all app and no release at the end of a lot of his phrases. You would know better than I do though!

If you need an app or a “trick” to write a song or worthwhile melody than please just stop. You’re not meant to do this. There are too many untalented people flooding the world with mediocre music right now. Find a different hobby. Seriously.

What software are you using to see the notes in the melody over the chord number? Thats a massively helpful tool for analyzing melody!

Always great tips! Thanks for sharing! You could combine this tension trick with another one you've posted before, having a big jump up to your chorus, using a big attention grabbing tricks with your non-chord tone
