USB to Serial Port Installation and Troubleshooting - Downloading Drivers, Changing Com Port Number

I have been trying my hand with Arduino programming lately. Things were fine for a while but then the USB port that was called COM 4 disappeared from the Arduino IDE TOOLS menu. Programming was no longer possible. When I use device manager COM 4 does not show unless I go to View - Show Hidden Devices, then it shows I have USB-SERIAL CH340 (COM4) and USB-SERIAL CH340 (COM5) both of them greyed-out. So my IT guy at work said yeah you can UNINSTALL DEVICE (which I did to COM4) but then he had to go home to wife and kids leaving me hanging not knowing how to reinstall the device. I have CH341SER.EXE but it says it is already installed. Trying to update the driver from Device Manager gave me a message saying I already have the latest version. So how do I bring back COM4 and make it appear as an option in the TOOLS menu so I can upload sketches again? EDIT: Ok I found my answer.

I need help regarding this 😔 it's detected already even before i saw your video., But from time to time the fully chem analyzer machine drops the connection for a split second or two and then gets connected again(since when I try to check the connection of the machine via a button, the machine responds). I don't see the prompt, but the error on the software says "no response or timeout" mid-testing
So the problem is connection dropping from time to time.

Please i need help
I changed the FIFO buffers to minimum for connection issues but it didn't help. 😔

hello some alternative to run putty - port COM 3 shows a yellow mark and after update the driver putty can no connect USB serial port

Hello, I've tried step by step everything from your video but it's still the same, when I plug in my cable the Ports folder in Device Manager doesn't show up at all. Any suggestions?

I can't plug my monitor in. The port is broken so I can't see all this stuff they're talking about.

ugh. I finally thought I'd found the answer after a solid day of searching only to find the drivers are no longer available.......

I need drivers if possible for Windows XP 32bit. This is an old laptop going to a commercial embroidery machine via female to female serial port cable. My computer is not acknowledging the cable in port com1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps you can help me. Using a barcode scanner with serial connector. Added a serial to USB adapter and all seems good. I can see the port in the device manager and input from the scanner can be captured in Notebook, word and other Windows programs, including web browsers. However, running an application for retail sales the scanned data never makes it to that application. Have a second USB type scanner and that works fine. Scratching my head trying to figure out why the scanned data from the serial device never makes it to the application. Any advice what to look for?

I'm trying to connect a BAOFENG cable for my radio but it only says "USB Serial". After trying to follow the instructions it still is showing up with the yellow triangle and no driver info, it is showing as unknown and not available. Any thoughts?
