iPhone 15 Pro Max babyyyyy. Loving it. The HDR, detail, clarity and colour have really impressed me. Also the stabilisation in video is really quite something. I came from a 13 Pro.

Imagine if Apple never made Portrait mode or cinematic mode but instead spent those man-hours on improving the software tuning for regular photos and videos. That is a world I want to live in. Death to fake/digital bokeh.

For the time the original iPhone had a great camera despite its low megapixel count.

I jumped on the phone camera wagon back in 2002/03 with the Nokia 7250 and then moved to the Sony phones which had “great cameras”. Those photos haven’t aged well however, the original iPhone photos still look good to me now.

I might just buy my first iPhone after this, a 3GS, cause I do actually get the aesthetic of it. The photos have a whole vibe to them that reminds me of the old internet and I love it. I barely grew up in that time so it's really nostalgic.

I think cameras on phones have reached the point where unless you pixel peep the average person is really not going to be able to tell the difference.

I’m kind of disappointed they didn’t go through every iPhone like the title says to show all the differences. They jumped from 4S and skipped all the others to the latest ones.

The 14 Pro definitely looks overwrought in software processing. I'd hope they dial this back and let the larger sensor do its thing, but they never really improve the camera stack after launching an iPhone, so only in the 15 onwards they might

tip with the 3Gs: the camera is garbage for pictures but for videos tho, that’s where the aesthetics come into play

I miss having a camera.
The cameras on the phones are great but you always very quickly hit their limits.

I remember using my mum's old iphone 4s and being impressed how usable the camera was.. not just that my dads 6 also has great camera quality in daylight

Anthony described it perfectly. As a recent Apple-hater-turned-fanboy, it started when I got sick of Android and switched to an iPhone. . After that my devices slowly got replaced one-by-one until I realized that almost all my regularly-used devices were Apple products.

As for a dream list, it'd be like this:
- 14" M2 Macbook Pro with a base M1 Max/32GB/1TB -> $3099
- iPhone 12 with 64GB/Unlocked -> $629
- Series 8 Watch with Stainless steel/45MM/leather band -> $799

If you add in my own custom keyboard (similar to something like what they used on the keyboards video with Plouffe), a CalDigit TS4 docking station, as well as a couple of nice non-apple QHD monitors and some nice external speakers, then you're sitting at around $8500 or so.

The computer is bumped-up a bit from the base spec Macbook Pro as I'm a software developer, so the extra RAM and processing power is useful for running Docker/heavy IDE's/VM's/etc. I really like that the 14 can be identical to the 16, just with a smaller screen and battery. It's a good way to save money and get a more portable machine. Also, since I use my laptop docked 95% of the time, I don't really miss the extra screen space all that much.

I would have put in some Studio Displays, but they're just one of the dumbest products that Apple makes in my mind. I really wish they would have cut features like the speakers/facetime camera/etc to save on costs and just focused on making a good monitor.

Also, the iPhone 12 is a bit of an outlier here because, IMO, there's barely any difference between the 14, 13, and 12. I also don't particularly care about photo quality, so the pro models don't mean a lot.

One of my favorite things about iPhone photos USED to be that EVERYTHING was done in real time. I hate that on my 14 pro, i tap a photo I just took and it suddenly updates with more processing. It’s annoying.

I bought a 12 Pro Max for the camera.... and never again....

I really think I got a defective lens assembly, I get way too much lens flare all the time, no matter how much I clean the lens... but I really don't know.
And the phone is so damn slow at taking a photo, their processing always decides it needs longer exposures, so when I try to snap photos of my dog they are always a blur because he moves and the phone keeps insisting on 1-2 second shots.

I've put off an upgrade because I just don't trust that I'll get a good camera out of a new phone for the insane amount of money they are now charging and their processing makes the experience so much worse.

My 4-year-old son uses my old iPhone 4S as a camera, and I've been pretty surprised with some of the photos he's managed to take. I mean sure, a lot of them are outdoors with tons of light that makes any camera look good, but still!
