Davits Draven is horrible! He was blunt and ruthless and he made his soldiers commit atrocious acts because he thought the ends justifies the means which is wrong. AND, he went behind Mon Mothma's back a lot, proving that he is a horrible leader! Vader gave him what he deserved.

Han got even more impressive in Legends - he ended up in command of the New Republic task force assigned to hunt down the Imperial warlord Zsinj - in the process of which his forces destroyed not one but TWO Executor-class Super Star Destroyers - Razor's Kiss and Iron Fist.

Going through this whole series and I would love to see more. Thanks for the great videos Adam!

Lando really took my boy Wedge - one of the greatest pilots the galaxy had ever seen - and made him a turret gunner on the Falcon...

Saw Guerrera is an interresting entry cuz he was surely a competent leader able to win battles and survive...but he was also narrowminded wich could sometimes make him look like a liability to the rebellion.

I'd like to give a huge spotlight to Lando Calrissian at Endor. Turns out, being a gambler, one of the best in the galaxy, translates well into being a field military commander.
And it's all of that experience in gambling, and the willingness to take risks, that saved the Rebel fleet three times during the battle.
1) Realizing the jamming meant that the shield was still up, thus ordering the fighters to cancel their initial charge lest they slam into it.
2) Convincing Ackbar that they need to stay despite the Death Star's laser picking them off, so they don't squander Han's efforts.
3) Engage the ambush fleet at point blank melee to use them as a shield against the Death Star, which, indeed could not fire on its own ships
And all of these were also thematic redemptions for him, arguably his biggest redemption from his initial selling out of Han on Bespin.
There, he refused to take risks, and still lost the game he didn't even want to play anyway. He betrayed not only Han, but who he was.
Here, he returned to being the legendary gambler that he was, and won extremely big. Lando Calrissian, the legendary gambler, was finally redeemed.

The thrawn Trilogy made ackbar look just like a radical conservative to me.
An old guy that refuses to change anything because he was used to republic BS.

In the Heir To The Empire novels, Wedge is also very important and you get to know him a bit more than just the few seconds of screen time he has in the movies.

I don't doubt that Saw Gerrera was competent, but his blood vengeance motivation made him a danger to innocent neutrals and his killing anyone in the Empire without unconditional surrender meant no chance for potential defectors to add to the rebels' numbers. Hypothetically, he definitely would not spare Kallus or hear him out. Overall Saw might have jeopardised the rebels' cause, but some moral support did get him to aim for the more critical Imperial targets. Hera and Ackbar are fine examples to the galaxy, that you don't need to be human to have good cause and be talented. I'm interested to know what Carson Teva did before he became a New Republic officer. He seems very competent, well-trained and fair.

I disagree about Han. I wouldn't say he's INcompetent, but crediting him with brokering a deal with the Ewoks is blatantly false -- Leia, Luke, and C-3PO did that, all Han did in that instance was behave rudely to everyone -- and, although I'm admittedly not an expert on military operations, it seems to me that none of what he did on the Forest Moon of Endor was so difficult that any other relatively-capable Rebel leader couldn't have also done it. His greatest contribution to the Rebellion was the Millennium Falcon (and those times he used said ship to keep Leia, Luke, and R2-D2 alive, which I feel are attributable nearly as much to his luck as to his skill).
