And as a black American i instinctively loved it because sosmthibg about the bass and drums was vaguely reminiscent of jazz and funk.


And 30 years later and with a much more broader knowledge of music, i can say my first instincts were correct , especially as Danny Carey considered hjmself a jazz drummer.


And for folsk who dont know...while jazx has its roots in American blues and gospel..its defining sound would come from proto Jazz aka Ragtime.

And why was it called ragtime? Because of the offbeat syncopated rhythms that would go on to define jazz.

I'm 49, and this album was such a welcome relief from the drudge when it came out. Metal seemed to go totally commercial after Metallica and Megadeth sold out, and Anthrax went into their weird rap phase (Slayer kept bangin'). Oddly enough, rock and grudge picked up some of the slack, but good metal had about three years of slack until these guys came along. . . Wait. I forgot Pantera in 1990. Damn, Cowboys was was awesome when it came out! 😊

The kids of metal today are robbed, and I wish them better times. To hear Puppets, Justice, Peace Sells, or Seasons when they first came out was so exhilarating!

All Tool albums are fantastic!!! Very special in their right !!! Each Album! I felt in love when I heard this amazing sound and track!!

Im tripping ballsss and theres an officrr in da cabin

I was around when this came out and didn’t appreciate it. It took quite a few years to realize Tool was far superior to most heavy music on my playlist but I finally found out.

Is it bad at 66 year's old that im still enjoying the hell out of Tool's music, when I'm gone I'm taking this CD with me.

Propably one of the best anti-capitalist songs around. Probably not what the band intended but it fits the song perfectly

First time listening to Tool-- not a big fan of the production but I like the vocal cadences and style.

The Grudge is the best opening track for an album ever, but Intolerance is right up there.

It's probably one of their best albums
