We all have heard of Leonidas and the famous 300 Spartans fighting their famous last stand against the Persians. Nobody mentions that there was 700 Thespians beside them who refused to leave the Spartans. It was said that the Spartans instructed that their famous red cloak be removed and handed to as many Thespians as possible. Leonidas was said to have told them they had fought like Spartans and that they had become Spartans.

There is a modern day monument set up to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution made by the 700 Thespians during this conflict. It seems that too often they are ignored by people, but it must be remembered, that while modernity has forgotten them, Leonidas did not forget them.

Outnumbered 3 to 1??? Good, now its fair when we win!!!! Attack!!!!

this shows Hollywood never actually tells the true story. They only tell the story that sounds good. Yes there was 300 Spartans. But they were actually a part of a larger army of 4000-7000 soldiers in total

Ya know, with the historical base for this guy that missed the battle due to eye infection, and then tried to redeem himself during battle of Plateya, by breaking ranks and attacking enemy... I think if we end up turning Ephialtes into failed Spartan, an creature ugly within and without, it is ok to make this dude a badass and rehabilitate him at least a bit.

Just remember it is never over. Smaller armies have conquered unsermountable odds time and again through history. At Bannockburn, the Scots were outnumbered 4-1. 20,000 against around 5,000. We slaughtered them, killing 12,000, 700 Knights among the fallen. We lost 100 soldiers! 100! Right is might.

i like how so many ancient warfare terms were termed by the greeks (at least those we know of)
like "phyrric victory", which goes back to some attacking force, who won, but lost 80-90% of their troops, so they couldn't withstand any other attack after.
