How often do you water? I know the stick method and the 2 inch dry method... but my pants always feel try and had a clean stick even after I drown it and soak it for 30 minutes.. next day it's dry...

Soil development took me from a struggling houseplant mama to a prop queen. Helps me to think about how they’d grow outside - it’s not a solid brick of pure black dirt. Those root systems are working around rocks and sticks and all that.

Question. Have u ever got a bag of potting soil with actually Rocks in it? Have I been out of the loop too long and this is a new thing? Or did the suppliers toss the rocks in to cheat the weight?

Do you think it's worthwhile to purchase the soil as well draining or to build it with potting mix and amending from there?

So I love plants and new to ur channel. My kitty loves to eat all mine so I have to stash them high lol. I almost killed them all this winter. My bathroom has no vent for heat so they got cold as F. So trying to bring them back to life I started you tube. I’ve watched A LOt of channels but NOBODY described the soil thing like u did. I totally get it now. Never knew that. How u shared that was perfect. Thank u. Now I have random buckets trying to collect rain water lol. I’m a mess I know. But I’m learning

How do you prevent gnats in soil like this that contains bark etc that they love to feed on? I just switched to an indoor potting mix but it doesn’t have any bark etc that gnats like but now watching this I’m concerned it’s not going to drain as well! I tried gnat barrier pumice on top of my soil but every time I water the plants it moves so don’t think it’s working as well as a barrier as I’d hoped it would.

I just made my own mix for the first time. I mixed 1 part peat moss + 1 part perlite + 2 parts orchid bark. I’ve been looking after my plants successfully for several years and I’ve only recently learned the indoor potting mix as is not best for plants without amendments. I’m slowly repotting all my plants in the new mix. Can’t wait to see them thrive. 😁

I genuinely have no idea where to get things like perlite and orchid bark. Dont think I've ever found either in any garden centre I've been to, I dont even know if it would be easy or cheap to get online. Generally looks like something used in america cause even in all the gardening shows I've seen in the uk they never make any mention of those things, think at most I've just heard the "gardening experts" suggest rocks or pebbles in the soil
