ОтветитьKnackered comes from a 'Knackers Yard' where they used to put old horses down. Also 'knackers' is slang for testicles. I've never heard of 'swear-down' before.

Ответить"Panties in a bunch" is indeed a saying here in USA. But it is not really used by young people today. And in fact, I only hear it spoken maybe once per year. It has fallen out of favor. It is 2023 right now.
ОтветитьYes, in America we say, don't get your panties in a bunch. I also say, "Don't get your BVDs in a bundle," mainly to guys. Your voice is very mellifluous!
ОтветитьThis lesson is a bit hard but useful. Thanks very much Lucy!

ОтветитьThe greater problem is taking the name of God in vain for those of us who love Him. Please use “gosh” instead. Thank you.
ОтветитьWe say don't get your undies in a bundle.
ОтветитьIt's pretty rare but yet, Americans do use 'Panties in a Bunch'. "You've got to be kidding me" is straight up the same, though.
ОтветитьPanties in a bunch? About the same meaning yes. The Americans also speak of a hair up the ass. I think the British translation is 'bee in the bonnet ' Fun video, thx.
ОтветитьYou didn't explain why knackered might be rude. My granny, born 1900, told me that knackered was suggestive of post coital exhaustion.
Ответить#6 Your knickers in a twist, my family from Glasgow Scotland would say "Don't get your knickers in a knot". I still use this in Ontario Canada. For # 7, its clear that the Canadian and American expression is "wrench in the works". We don't use spanners, real dudes use wrenches.
ОтветитьYes it’s panties in a bunch us the American version.
ОтветитьI would like to see her beaver.
