GREAT video, great playing and inspiration, hilarious banter (as usual, and bravi!) BUT - if I may - I wish the stupid, clickbaity titles would stop? “Why the Jazz Bass is so great” would have conveyed the same exact meaning; no bass ever CRUSHES anything. 🙄 FFS!
Love from a Grumpy Old Fart! 😂❤🎵
Scott, you didn't inrtroduce the guy on your left side. Who is it? Very good, you both 👍🎸😊
ОтветитьYou both are great together. Please do more vids. I started playing bass at 9 years old. I stopped playing when I moved to Florida 30 years ago and watching you both, who I believe are totally right on with your analysis, is giving me the itch again at 68.I have a 69 Fender Jazz bass and a reissue 62.
ОтветитьJazz bass... first player that comes to mind is Geddy Lee.
ОтветитьI spent most of my life owning the wrong bass (a jazz bass). I traded it for a P bass and ill never look back. The jazz just didn't have that low end punch that I didn't know I needed for all those years. Plus I love the chunkier neck, it feels so much better to play and I want to play way more often since owning a P bass. However I do play rock, so theres that.
ОтветитьGeddy Lee is who I think of for the Jazz Bass.
ОтветитьFor me when I think of Jazz bass I think of Geddy Lee for passive and Marcus for the active bass :)
ОтветитьI so much prefer a P to a J. Simplicity. With so few options, there's nothing to do but play. The only flaw in my opinion is the pickup placement on a traditional PBass. My ideal bass would be a single, big humbucker, like a Music Man, and with no controls except a single volume knob and a kill switch.
ОтветитьThat is the sexist 70’s Jazz I’ve ever seen. Also a tone machine. Gorgeous!
Ответитьif you want authentic sound on 'stir it up; start by tuning you 4th string down bout 1/4 one lol
ОтветитьThank you guys for making this. Super fun video with lots of great information. I think you just sold me another Jazz Bass. Clearly the Orange ones sound different than the burst paint ones.
ОтветитьWhy pay so much time on getting the sound right?
It's the feel, the grove and the the Bass!
The original players didn't have your toys. Just enjoy and make it yours.
reggae, country, pop/slap
ОтветитьListen gosh darn it! I’m a super nerd and the vintage Larry Graham sound is Rotosound Tru Bass nylon tapewounds. If you look at all the old school photos of Larry with his fender jazz bass, you’ll see the black strings with the yellow windings near the tuning pegs. There’s also a photo floating around of Bootsy playing them on a jazz bass with James Brown. OK?!?!?
Ответитьthese videos on gear and technique and bass trivia are fun and interesting . Hey Scott, would you please teach more songs on SBL ? like whole songs with notation?
thanks and see you in the shed
The chemistry/interaction between the two you you really makes these videos. Thank you
ОтветитьGreat video.
ОтветитьI would also mention Carlos Dengler of Interpol, Tim Commerford of RATM and, of course, His Majesty John Paul Jones
Ответитьthis is so rich
Ответить🎉great video i enjoy it a lot
ОтветитьThe bass line on that J Redmen track is the same line she played on God,Fear and Money
ОтветитьMute bridge tone.
ОтветитьIt is so heavy !
Ответитьyou guys are having way too much fun! Love this!
Ответить1st thought, Geddy 🤷
2nd, Fender don't make the best jazz basses 🫡
What's that first song called? I remember Jeffrey Epstein playing that song over nd over at the country club I used to part time waiter at.
ОтветитьGreat video thanks! Love a Jazz Bass 🎉
ОтветитьGreat now I really NEED a J.
Ответитьa little late here. why do these brothers have different accents?(one is passive, one is active?)
ОтветитьWell yeah, that's it !! Larry played two basses !!
ОтветитьI thought that the tone in "hair" came from the octave pedal he uses + an old amp :)
Ответитьthat Meshell thing looks like a man to me.
ОтветитьReally appreciate these videos! For me, the Swiss Army Knife of basses is the P/J configuration. You can do everything you can with a Jazz bass, -plus - using only the neck pickup sounds exactly like a P bass!
ОтветитьAre both of you on standard tune or a 1/2 step down ?
ОтветитьYou didn't mention Geddy Lee predominately uses just 1 finger on the right hand
ОтветитьI'm so grateful that there are people on this earth, who are not just willing, but excited to play this necessary, but boring instrument.
ОтветитьAnyone ever noticed on the recording of Stir It Up the low A note sounds flat by about 10 cents?
ОтветитьI'm primarily a reggae bassist, and I had never heard to do that trick! I'm always at full neck, no bridge, tone mostly off, and I just instinctually keep my volume around 80% because I thought it sounded better (and I want the headroom on deck) good to know its a legit thing
Ответить2073...let's review this amazing jazz bass
3073...let's review this j bass from fender
IT's flats, round wound was not invented yet or was just coming out. most of Larry Graham Central Station is flat wound.
ОтветитьScott was just fine by himself,he would stick to the topic and not deviate
ОтветитьTruth be told, I only clicked because I misread the thumbnail as "the secret scone trick" instead of "the secret tone trick". Kind of disappointed at the lack of pastry-related advice now. Sick playing, though!
ОтветитьScott having nice things to say about the J-bass? Perish the thought.
ОтветитьYou two really work hard together
Its lovely to see both on the same page
Love it
LOVE THIS!!!!!! My face hurts from smiling so much! LOL! Thanks, gents!
ОтветитьAnd why with 4 basses I spend the most time on my '68 Jazz.
ОтветитьThat Larry Graham riff sounds like Bobby Vega too
ОтветитьI’m a p bass guy but this video was absolutely enjoyable. Thanks Ian and Scott 🤘
