Galaxy Tab A8: How to Force a Restart? Can't Restart?

Worked for me when my touchscreen mysteriously became unresponsive. Would love to know what caused my tab to do that because it has never "glitched" on me before, and has been the most stable and highest performing device ive ever owned.

Thank you, this worked after a 2 month old Samsung A8 tablet got stuck on 5% battery life and would not recharge after trying everything except this restart. Normal restart green button and shut down would not even pop up, 30 sec soft restart didn't work, different socket or charger did nothing. Funny thing is since everything was connected properly the Android OS can basically deny a device from charging since after your fix it didn't see it had been connected to a charger for 4 hours and was still stuck at 5% battery life, key difference being this time with the lightning bolt symbol in the battery icon.

Any ideas on what to do if it just won’t power on or charge at all? Bought new, used about 10 times, left in the box after moving and granted it’s been flat for about 4 months but it’s been on charge for 2 days on 2 different leads and blocks and nothing… I’d appreciate any advice you can offer.
